Terribly sad news. The driver of the van has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Mason had an excellent pro record, 37-1-0 with that only loss being to the great Lennox Lewis. I remember him KO-ing Biggs and Tillis and he was unfortunate to suffer a recurrence of the eye injury that ultimately ended his career.

He was on Radio 5 Live about a year ago and was a genuinely nice guy who gave useful insights into boxing and the state of the heavyweight scene.

Rest in peace and thanks for the fighting entertainment.
