Ohhh well, hopefully it'll be definative either way now. Gives them a chance to run the old 'hype' machine of Pettis full blast.

 

It's not a major error either way, but what I would've done is have Edgar defend against Pettis, give Maynard someone like Sotiropoulos in his next match, and if he beat Sotiropoulos he got the winner of Edgar-Pettis. Lightweight is so stacked a division and everyone underneath is on hold spinning in place not getting anyone new in there.

immediate rematch - winner of this match would fight the Florian-Maynard winner in the next title match, this became Maynard-Edgar

in the meantime, UFC and WEC merge, and UFC give the next title shot after that to the Henderson-Pettis winner to unify the two lightweight divisions under Zuffa's command

Maynard-Edgar ends in a draw, Pettis doesn't get his promised shot; so we're going to have 4 lightweight title fights in a row where the only people that have gotten a chance are Edgar at first, than the defeated champ Penn, Maynard as the next challenger, Maynard again, and Florian had his shot too via the eliminator he lost, but that was chance #3 for him. And it's not like there's no one underneath at lightweight like is the case at middleweight for example. There's Evan Dunham, George Sotiropoulos, Jim Miller, you have Pettis now since Zuffa is paying lip service to the WEC and his kick off the cage will be in an MMA highlight reel 20 years from now.

 

Maynard had his chance and blew it. Pettis should get his shot now.

Without the first round Gray would have lost clearly. Now he better hope to have another first round like that (or even better) to beat Edgar and its a longshot at best. Thats why Pettis should have given a shot. Gray can wait his turn if hes meant to be a champ.
