if sugar ray leonard was 145-5, then how many times did he fight in a year cuz if i remember correctly, he was only 20 when he turned pro.
That would be an interesting point, since I've also seen Howard Davis Jr's record at 125-5, and Michael Dokes at 147-7
Anyone know where i can see Lennox Lewis amatuer record? How many of hes amateur boats has been recorded? I have about 10 of hes amateur fights, would like to see a few of the fights that was mentioned in this thread,.
Joe Calzaghe won four schoolboy ABA titles followed by three consecutive senior ABA titles {Welter, light-middle, middleweight} becoming only the second man ever in about a hundred years to achieve such a feet. Calzaghe's record was something like 118 -2, losing two controversial decisions one to a fellow Welshman and one to a Romanian. Joe didnt go to the Olympics because of his showboating, as the authorities thought it was disrespectful in the amateur game and not the done thing.
Do you have any further information on this loss? Was Tyson still standing? Was it a premature stoppage, like Lewis-Bowe?
Amos Johnson,,,,,,,,,,,,Ohio Light Heavyweight 63-2 Amateur Record 1959 at age 20. Beat Cassius Clay in Louisville, Kentucky 1959 Pan-Am Games Trials Won 178 lb. Light Heavyweight Championship @ 1959 Pan Am Games, in Chicago, September 1959. A U.S. Marine in 1957/1958/1959 Most likely would have been the United States representative at the 1960 Olympics, for 178 lb. Light Heavyweight. But had to turn Pro in 1959, after the September Pan Am games,,,,because he needed money.
Just read a nice article on Terry Downes career set in the most recent IBRO journal, here is the bare bones. The article was by Rob Snell Won Welterweight undisputed All services Championship (he was a US Marine), described as 'the best boxer to come out of Great Britain and won unanimous entry into Olympic tryouts.' 1st Olympic test - won all 4 bouts in two days in Eastern Regional Tryouts. Beating Bobby Lovall and Mike Loucas, in his division was Bob Rigolosi (NCAA Welterweight champion) and Bill Pickett (National AAU Champion) Also Downes beat Wes Santee (who at the time was also the fastest miler in the US), KO'd Manuel Mays in 84 seconds. TKO's Howard Moore in r rounds. During 4 year stay compiled record of 63 wins in 67 bouts, beating the long reigning 'invincible' All Services Champion Rudy Sawyer. A loss was against Larry Barret. All in all a pretty good amatuer record.

I have read on this forum that he was beat as an amateur yet in the video 'Pound for Pound' from roughly 30yrs back, SRR himself claims that he had something like 165 fights (im not sure of the exact figure but its in this area) Am and Pro, before he lost the first time
Tony Canzoneri has 104 or 105 amateur fights. I don't know the W-L-D numbers. He started as an amateur aged 12. He turned pro at 16.
