The super 6 problems

No way Ward and Dirrell would sign for one fight only. Their careers would have stalled for a long time if they where to lose as was expected in the first pairings.

 

I said it couple of times before. Bute could only replaced Froch.
They wanted at least 3 US fighter and "the men" and #1 at SMW Kessler who happen to have the same promoter as Abraham who was a champ but couldn't make the weight anymore. 3 Americans fighters was a golden rule for the success of this new concept on the target market - USA. 2 great undefeated prospect former Olympics medalist , and the US "known name" Taylor could not be replaced. Kessler and Abraham could not be replaced because 1 was considerate the best.He was a champion and the other one probably came as a condition to have the main fighter at SMW in the tournament.


Pavlik could have easy replaced Taylor as "the known name" and the marketability of the tournament would have remained the same if not better.

 

Not really like I said there is a good list for their 1st round during the 8 men tournament: Miranda,Stieglitz,Andrade,Magee,Brinkley,Bika,Green those who make contenders out of prospects. And after them fighting 1 of this guys 4 out of 8 men where gonna be available, could take the one who looked the most impressive , or had the closest fight with a champ , after the 2nd round - Semifinals another 2 where out.

 

It seems to me that Showtime was trying from the start to get three american fighters to get rating in the US and three Europeens fighters to make it big in Europe too. Bute was probably left out because (even thought he's born in Romania) he's homebase is now in Montreal, Canada.

From what I understood from the fews months prior to the Super Six, Bute and Froch where trying to make a fight happens between the two of them. They did not came to terms. Weither it is because they did not agree on a location or because during the negociations Froch was invited too the Super Six and that gave him a better option in his mind.

The Super Six was a good idea but boxing being an individual sports and a fighting sports it's obvious that you can expect injuries during such a prolonged tournament. At the moment the injuries happened Bute was under contract with HBO, Showtime rivals and could therefore not joint at that point. Now that he's signed with Showtime I fully expect him to get McGee, one of the Super 6 drop out guy and if he wins the two fight the winner of the Super 6.

It feels like Showtime adjusted and guaranteed themselve a super fight weither it's during the Super 6 or after it. I'd like to see Bute face Kessler or Direll after McGee, but that's me.
