surley having beaten both is the most logical and fair arguement. Not only did he beat them but he did it twice for each.

 

I've seen threads on here where Eubank is hailed as one of Calzaghe's finest wins. Didn't Collins beat him twice before then? Can't have it both ways. Eubank still had a lot to offer then, Benn not so much.

 

I think Eubank still had a lot to offer by the time he fought Calzaghe, nevermind Collins.

You clearly rate Collins lower than Benn and Eubank, why don't you lead by example and come up with something concrete and logical as to why you take the contrary view.

 

I’m not Irish but I have changed my opinion on this over the years. At first I was always of the opinion that Collins was slightly inferior and just caught them both at the right time when Eubank was on a punishing fight schedule and Benn was shot.

Now though I believe Collins would have beaten Eubank regardless. I just think Collins had Eubanks number and although they were closely matched, Collins had the edge.

As for Benn he was clearly shot as a fighter for both of his Collins fights and any attempt to claim otherwise does him a disservice. But I now think had Collins met Benn in his prime the result might have still been a Collins victory? Maybe they would have taken one apiece or had a draw?

Either way after re-watching a few of the old 90’s fights of all three fighters this past few months Collins has gone up in my estimation. I always rated Collins but generally below both Eubank and Benn. I now have him above Eubank and equal or just edging Benn.

All three of them were great fighters though. It is easy to forget just how much I hated Eubank back then though. Watching the old fights brought all that back for a bit lol. I think I warmed to him when he had the fights with Thompson even though he lost and I always liked the “Cat”.

Collins is underrated as a top super middleweight I feel and it is easy to just call him a tough brawler (as I did previously) who caught certain fighters at the right time. He was definitely avoided in the division during his peak years.

 

Collins beat a completely shot Benn. If you cant see that watch another sport.
He was also lucky in the first fight against Eubank who I felt won clearly.

Against that he apparently gave Eubank a right thumping in the rematch and also had some very good wins over Tony Thornton and Kevin 'Killer' Watts. I also felt he gave Reggie Johnson fits when they fought.
I rank them pretty close together with Collins onso closely behind as to not really be worth arguing about. The one thing that annoys me however is that people still somehow consider the Benn fights relavent.
They were not. This isn't an oppinion its a statement of fact. If you dissagree watch another sport.

 

The Irish belive Collins was better because they share the same Island. Was Calzaghe a better fighter than RJJ?
