Lewis Rahman was no surprise. Yes Lewis was considered the far better fighter but I remember the press reports were full off how Lewis hadn't had a full training camp, hadn't gone early enough to climatise to atlitude and looked unfit in the weigh in. I think a lot of analysts sensed the upset at the time and this came across in the build up.

On the other hand Tyson was considered indestructable by all when Douglas got him.

 

Tyson. Lewis had been stopped before. Both had shitty camps, but Tyson had that aura about him.

Let's get it right. The Tyson-Douglas fight was one off the biggest upsets in sport history. Anyone who is old enough will know that it was front page news worldwide.
The Lewis-Rahman upset was one of the big upsets in h/weight history, in boxing terms. Anyone who say's Lewis was a KO waiting to happen is just a hater or is just being dismissive. The guy had'nt been beat in like 7-8 years and was a dominant champ, and let's not forget even the overweight, undertrained Lewis was still winning the fight against Rahman.
So yeah while the Lewis-Rahman fight was a big upset and will rightly be remembered has one, the Tyson-Douglas one was one off huge proportions. Just check the bookmakers odds for the fight. Douglas 42-1 outsider say's it all.

Had he been slipping? Yes. But not nearly enough for him to be on his way to a first loss.

There was nobody in the world that they could have put in the ring with Mike Tyson in Tokyo that would have been a favorite over him on that day. Not unless they invented the time machine.

Not sure if you were around for Tyson's glory days of the 80s but he was the type of fighter that when he lost it was front page news everywhere even in non sports related activity.

 

I thought this was a wind up thread but the 5 People who voted for Rahman Lewis are probably born after 1988 and didn't become boxing fans until the 2000s.

Lewis was shooting a part in a movie with Vitali at that time as the OP stated, Oceans 11 or whatever it was called, and there were questions on whether he was taking the fight with Rahman seriously. When an out of shape Lewis got his bell rung and KO'd, anyone who followed the lead in knew exactly why it happened.

The Tyson loss was completely out of left field. Mike still very much had his aura of invincibility, coming off his massacre of Spinks, KO of Bruno and a first round KO of Carl Williams. No one gave Douglas a chance. It still is easily the greatest upset in boxing history.
