Or some people don't let personality or actions out of the ring effect their judgement of a fighter in the ring.

No matter what he says or does, or how much of a dick he is, he's still the best boxer in the whole world. Not just on top of the mountain, he is the damn mountain...

Thats why he won a SPLIT DECISION against an aging De la Hoya who would have won had he had 'FIT & PREPARED' Hatton Stamina and not gassed out after round 6?

Whoa! I thought this was going to be a controversial topic. On the ESB home page this thread is listed as

"Mayweather Jr is probably a ni..."

I really thought somebody was going to go there!

Guys like Oscar De La hoya and Sugar Ray Leonard have gotten further by playing a nicer role. Floyd chooses the gangster persona even though he spent his entire life in a boxing gym.
It makes me laugh to hear how rich he thinks he is, but it doesnt matter how much money you make, if you spend it like he does, eventually you will be broke. Just ask Mr Tyson who blew through 300 million.

I agree that Floyd is merely taking on a controversial character in order to help sell his fights.

Boxing is a business where you sell yourself and your next fight, and a long time, pro fighter like Floyd knows that the nice guy vs. the mean and arrogant ******* sells well.

The good vs. evil equasion raises emotion in people and gets them emotionally attached to the nice guy, as they want to beat the ******* (Floyd), and vicariously live out this accomplishment through the nice guy (Hatton). If Hatton beats the *******, so do all the diehard fans who are wanting to beat an ******* in their own life.

For every punch that Hatton lands on the *******, Floyd, the fans in the audience will feel as if they are beating on the *******, right along with him.

Its all about getting the audience interested and emotionally attached.

So why has he been trying so apparently hard on 24/7 to come across as a generous nice guy and great father?

Surely trying to project this image would be defeating his aim? If what you say is true.
