New interview with Strikeforce light-heavyweight prospect, and probably the most accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner in the world, Roger Gracie. I'm excited that he's fully committing to an MMA career, and aiming for three fights a year. The 205lbs division outside the UFC isn't so deep that he couldn't become a legitimate contender for the Strikeforce belt. There's certainly some decent fights out there if he can make the jump from elite grappler to serious mixed martial arts contender. Trevor Prangley holds a 23-6-1 record and is coming of a win over Keith Jardine, so it's a good step up for Gracie's fourth MMA fight. Prangley could pose a problem due to sheer experience, but I fancy Gracie by submission.
He's one of my favourite BJJ guys and probably the best so if the fight goes to the ground it's more than likely he's going to win. His striking didn't look bad against an admittedly past it Randleman, he dropped him with a knee before getting a sub and I htought he used his reach well. Saw that him and some of the rough house guys had trained with GSP, hopefully his stand up and wrestling will develop well. Then again I saw Joe Calzaghe was there too so maybe he's learning how to slap
He has legit BJJ skills but he is going to need to be come an all rounder UNLESS he is exceptional at BJJ in MMA.
I wouldn't really call Roger next generation, he is already a well known name, relatively of course, who has pretty much peaked in terms of development.
