MR. DAVID LEMIEUX
MR. MARCO ANTONIO RUBIO

Dear friends:

Serve this letter to initiate the free negotiations period for the final eliminator fight between number 3 rated David Lemieux, from Canada and number 4 rated Marco Antonio Rubio, from Mexico, to determine the mandatory contender of the middleweight division.

If there is no agreement between the parties, the WBC will conduct a purse offer on Friday, January 7, 2011 in Mexico City.

Please accept my sincere regards.

Purse bid was delayed to this Friday, probably because both parties were waiting to see if the WBC would strip Maravilla considering the Dzin fight. **** it's not like it wasn't on anybody's radar, we saw it coming. I made two different threads about it, 12 days ago and 4 days ago lol. However, tagging Chavez Jr as mandatory contender is ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS (just as the belt stripping is, except this is actually new) on the WBC's part.

GYM knows for a fact Chavez Jr won't fight Lemieux. Universum protects their champs. Chavez Jr is now Zbik's mando for 2011.

Even if he were to literally rip Rubio's head off with hooks, no way in ****in hell does David get a WBC title shot this year. Sylvester, Sturm, Pirog don't even know who the kid is. Pirog is the only one I think is worth negotiating with.

And yes, I'm pissed about it.

hes still very young and green
itll do him no harm at all to get a few more fights in
the more rounds the better for this kid....
and when he eventually meets chavez/zbik somebodys head is gettin ripped off

This is the main problem. People can talk all they want about Lemieux needing more time or seasoning, but it's a sad situation when three of the four beltholders have no interest in fighting credible opponents like him and the fourth is stuck in Russia.

I know, but GYM president Yvon Michel said David was aiming at getting a title shot by the end of the year. David himself said in an interview that he'd be ready for Martinez or Pirog. At the pre Lemieux-Gates presser, they made it clear that David's objective for 2011 was a championship fight, which the Rubio eliminator was foreseen to lead to.

It's gonna become harder & harder to find a top 15 MW, let alone top 5 who wants to give Lemieux a chance to make it to the top.

i doubt that, if lemieux can get himself a good name in canada and get on Tv he will get decent opponents because he will be able to pay them well.

he needs 2/3 more fights before challenging. would he beat martinez? i doubt it. beating rubio wouldnt be good prep for chavez never mind pirog or martinez. it would be great if he did get his shot in 2 years and walked through the division ala hagler (calm down). he has the chance to be a superstar imo. HBO PPV, the works

Well, the WBC ordered the Lemieux-Rubio eliminator with the intent of determining a mandatory contender... now they hand that status to Junior as a freebie. The outcome of Lemieux-Rubio, although announced as an eliminator, has now zero meaning for 2011. The winner of Zbik-Chavez Jr will duck the real contenders so...

...theoratically, the absolute earliest the winner of that fight can be held accountable by the WBC for avoiding Lemieux is May 2012.

Who, amongst the top 15 MWs, do you honestly see being happy to take a fight against a prospect puncher like David?

With the expectations GYM set for Lemieux in 2011, doesn't that **** you off? Not even a little?

I agree with what you said, but I think his people want him to be on to bigger things this year... take Zbik, for example. Universum, for his FIRST defence, is certainly not gonna put some decent fighter in there with him. Not even JCC Jr. And that's around March/April...

...'tell you what. The purse bid for Lemieux-Rubio is on Friday. Yvon Michel, GYM president told the media they delayed the bid (originally scheduled for Jan 7th, but so was the bid for Martinez-Zbik) because A) negotiations with Rubio hit a wall, and B) there were chances of developments with the WBC belt as the Martinez-Dzinziruk fight talk spooled up. Michel said Zbik could become the regular champ if the WBC were to honor the mandatory clause held by the interim champ (since October). WBC talks to Universum, gets the easy first defence idea, and because #1 Chavez Jr and #2 Lemieux are available in the same timeframe, gets them to fight in an official #1 contender bout.

Sounds good, doesn't it? Chavez Jr already said he wouldn't fight Lemieux, that's an Yvon Michel quote from the same interview.

What do you think?

Lemieux hasn't actually accomplished anything as a pro. Zbik deserves to be rated higher and Chavez Jr. might.

Lemieux accomplished at least the same as those two.

Obviously young David will not be gifted with the favortism Jermain Taylor got. I was a big JT fan, but let's face facts. He had a pretty easy path to a title shot.

David will probably have to follow the "Pavlik Route" to a title shot. He will just have to keep knocking mother****ers out until he can't be ignored or made to go away.

Martinez has said he would be willing to face Zbik if he wins against Chavez jr. That would be still early this year. Lemieux, if he wins, will be the next one in line to have the title. Not so bad.

Martinez was willing to face Zbik NOW. HBO will force Martinez to fight another house fighter or oldtimer like Mayorga, Wright or even Quartey.

Zbik-Martinez won't happen.

I'd love to see Zbik-Chavez but I don't think it will happen either.
