Who ranks the highest of these 5 guys?

I got no problem with someone calling pernell #1 even if I disagree with it. The man made a case for himself like everyone else in the poll. What I hate is when haters jump to point out flaws in a guys resume while ignoring the ones of the resume of whoever's nuts they are on

 

I picked Whitaker. Pacman has the best resume, but Whitaker the best talent.

 

I never specifically focused on Margo and Clottey, that was you. I disagree about impact on legacy though. Clottey was universally ranked 5th at the time of the bout and the manner of the beating holds ground, not great but a good win. Margarito on his record doesn't rate to highly but the manner of the win and circumstances regarding weight adds a little substance.

I didn't say Tarver doesn't rate, I said Tarver doesn't rate alongside Barerra, JMM and Morales.

 

Damn idk how I feel about this poll. I'm a Pacman fan and even a PBF fan, but damn blowing out B. Hop and RJJ?

Roy Jones Jr.- in his prime unbeatable, art took place as well iniside that ring. Made things look so easy even when he face the greats like Hopkins and Toney.

Floyd/Manny- a simple tie... the winner if ever face each other will determine who ranks higher. Manny has accomplish great achievements, but Floyd as well and have made things look real easy. Would have wish though both fighters face guys who are in prime and hungry and less demands esp. when guys are killing themselves at the scales.

B-Hop- Has great names under his belt and keeps on surprising many of us. The only problem I have is a lot of his big names were at weights where his opponents like Winky, Tito, Pavlik, and DLH never dominated.

 

1. Roy Jones jr - Most dominant. Looked unbeatable for a LONG time

2. Manny Pacquiao - Most accomplished on this list.

3. Bernard Hopkins - Second most dominant on this list, great resume, longevity.

4. Pernell Whitaker - Tremendous natural ability, technique.

5. Floyd Mayweather - Not pushing himself to 100% of his potential.

 

I'm a RJJ fan but his record is hardly filled defining fights. his resume lets him down. There were better fights for RJJ but he didn't chase them. He probably would have beat anyone but if's, but's and maybe's don't make for the best legacy.

The poll is showing how unpopular Floyd is. I don't like the guy but it would be disingenuous not to acknowledge he is a rare talent who has the natural ability to match anyone on this list and what a list it is.

It's hard to compare fighters that have retired to current fights because it's not possible to compare the complete records. Sweet Pea is retired a while but is still considered a Top 6 or 7 ATG Lightweight. In time Pacquiao will be rated higher I believe if he can continue to win. Pacquiao's legacy will be as a weight jumper and a P4P great. Weight jumper don't always get the recognition because they didn't have enough longevity in any one division look at Bob Fitzsimmons or Sam Langford.

Manny is not beating the undisputed champ in each division the way Henry Armstrong did. Manny is an undoubted great but I think we have to wait until his career has finished to decide just how great he is.

I believe Manny needs to beat Mayweather to cement his place as a boxing god and take his place an an ATG P4P Top 20. If he loses to Floyd then it is Mayweather who become the ATG P4P Top 20. In terms of their legacy the fight elevates one fighter to a totally different level.

Agree about RJJ, but he seemed unstoppable.

I don't feel that anyone else on that list is unstoppable. I could see them all losing, especially Mayweather, to someone in the right circumstance.

Mayweather hasn't been truly tested because he won't fight the best. Because of that I don't think deserves to be on that list in terms of accomplishments.

On terms of natural ability...sure. He makes that by a mile. He's a gifted fighter with great reflexes and technique.

Pacquaio has stepped up his opposition and is fighting (as much as Arum allows) more difficult fighters each time.

Pac doesn't need to beat Floyd to cement anything, IMO, because he has already surpassed him. If Floyd beats Pac, that will say something to Floyds legacy, but I don't think it will tarnish Pac's legacy at all.

Personally, I think Floyd should be scratched from that list and replaced with ODLH. A prime ODLH would beat Pac, Floyd and Sweet Pea. Hopkins is always going to be tricky. RJJ would have been too much for ODLH, IMO.

 

for me its roy. dont jump all on me, but for me he is the greatest boxer ever, besides srr. he may not have achieved as much as an ali or pacquiao, but when he was prime, he was one, if not the most amazing athlete in the world, sports overall.
