Dress it up anyway you like , its still excuses.

Hatton loved to talk of legacy and being pound for pound (after Kostya) that doesnt tally with rubbering the other world class , same weight, local rival.

The level of delusion by Hatton fans is always marvellous to behold.
Gave PBF fits? Weight issue? So one minute he gets lauded for being a two weight world champ ( The legend killing Maussa ) and then given a pass for a 7lb weight gain? When Floyd rose 5 weight divisions from Super Feather? So what was Floyd's excuse?

Gave Flloyd fits a massive strectch but he was in there early on and gave Mayweather as much of a fight as anyone ( DLH and Castillo 1 aside ) for the first half.

But then hattons only chance at beating May was a gamble on running over him , as soon as it was claer that wasnt happening hatton must've know he was in trouble but he kept going.

Personally i would love to have seen the fight. I can also see why Hatton didn't. Hatton was getting over 20000 people in stadiums whilst working his way up the rankings fighting has beens looking for a shot at Tszyu. Witter who at the time was British champ was not in Hattons career plan. Hatton was beating the likes of prime Tackie in 2003 while Witter was fighting guys with 8-2-0 records. 2004 Both fighters were fighting fringe guys looking for world title bids. 2005 hatton fights Tszyu and Witter wins the commonwealth title, Hattons next fight was a unification fight against Maussa, right after that he moves up to WW and beats Collazo for the WBA WW title, next fight back at LWW to win back his IBF title from Urango, fight after that was a fight against Castillo in Vegas to lure Mayweather, fight after that was Mayweather.... There was only a small window in Hattons career when the fight made sense... Hatton chose other routes... Can't blame him for it because he went on to do better things than Witter in the division

    I'm not a Hatton fan... I'm a boxing fan.

OK probably the wrong wording... but he gave Floyd problems in the first 6 rounds prior to the point deduction. Floyd was using forearms, turning his back every time Hatton got close and ducking below the waist, but not a single warning... but Hatton was reprimanded every time he put his head on Floyds chest and got deducted a point because Floyd turned round and stuck his head out of the ring. Don't get me wrong I am more of a Floyd fan than a Hatton fan but the bias American refereeing in that fight was pathetic.

Also... Maussa was the WBA LIGHT Welter Weight... Collazo was the Welter Weight... learn what you're talking about before posting knob jockey

Im not denying it may have not been what Hatton was planning and the assertion that he didnt need Witter is also unquestionable.

But these are fighters were talking about and i cant help thinking if Witter had been a straight forward , come at you guy rather than a fast , awkward southpaw with good power Ricky would have happily taken his brit belt.

it doesnt ruin Hattons record , but for me , he should have fought him and it's something that will always be at the back of my mind when I consider Hattons ( otherwise excellent ) achievements

Hatton didnt care about the fans. If he did he would have been charging them 100 bucks to watch him beat up tin cans. That fight would have been the modern day equivalent of Benn Eubank. A genuine rivalry.

Young skinny pale kid could box, for sure!

He didn't stay true to himself though, and changed with his achievements.

I agree, the Witter fight should of happened.

Lewis - Klitschko II should also have happened, but Lewis done bitched out.

Agreed... It's just the theory that Hatton 'ducked' Witter that gets me. Hatton was fighting better competition and winning titles instead of fighting a guy that was still fighting at European level while he was doing it just because the guy was from the same country and spent his career calling him out?
I would love to have seen the fight, but Hatton didn't duck Witter, he just didn't need him.

As for how that fight goes I see it as 60/40 in favour of Hatton if we are talking younger versions. Witter was quick and awkward with heavy hands but he was also very lazy for massive protions of fights which is why he couldn't sell out a local town hall... against a young relentless Hatton who would look to be on his chest all night he would struggle to keep Hatton off because of his low work rate. Witter didn't have much of an inside game and once Hatton was inside most of Witters advantages are negated.... just my opinion

Despite his partying antic's Hatton always came in shape. Personally i don't think enough credit is given to Billy Graham for this.

I agree, and Hatton's dismissal of Graham shows everyone what kind of character Ricky has. The two of them were together for a long time and Hatton threw it all in the binge.

I'm clueless to **** as to how a guy like Hatton could keep producing despite his cocaine sniffing, beer binging antics outside the ring.

Because he was talented. It's a simple as that. There's no denying his extraordinary ability to come in great shape despite blowing up over 3 stone in weight. And was the sole reason why Warren had him fighting so often early on his career. But FW knew he was on to winner. And frankly - no pun intended - so did Ricky. And that's why im heavily critical of him. I sat through all that crap as a fan of boxing.
He's real temperament came to the fore though when he got rid of Graham. He had the silver spoon treatment and a ton of smoke blown up his ass. In the end he actually believed his own hype.
