Not so much Roy. Michaelzewksi was no ATG. As for him missing a prime Calzaghe and Hopkins, Calzaghe was in a division below Roy (and Roy ended up going up to heavyweight), and he'd already whooped Hopkins with one hand so he didn't need that rematch.

For Hopkins though, how can anyone deny a win over a prime Calzaghe and a rematch win over a still prime Roy wouldn't have been his biggest wins? As it stands, Tarver, Pavlik at 175, and a bunch of bloated jr middles and welters are his over-celebrated best wins.

how can you say he ducked somebody, if you dont really know. most of the time boxers dont pick theyre fights, promoters pick fights based on revenue, at the time calzaghe's name didnt bring the big name money and neither did that other guy you named. people wanna line up to see big names, no body thought much of calzaghe till the last few years imo. people payed alot of money for names like tarver, trinidad, taylor, pinky wright, at the time

gotta say no to you on both counts.

michalczewski would have been a great win for jones because he was the next best light heavywieght at the time. but as jones never expressed interest in fighting michalczewski, michalczewski never pushed for a jones fight either. and there is no doubt jones was the superior, more accomplished fighter, most likely would have won. beating toney is easily his best victory, even if he had fought and beaten dm.

as for hopkins, a calzaghe fight would have been big for hopkins post trinidad, and would have been a big feather in his cap had he won. but as it stands, hopkins is still has a better resume then calzaghe and is more accomplished.

if you're really taking about a career defining fight that both hopkins and jones missed out on, it was when they should have fought each other back in 2002.

    not this again.

we already know the answer. Jones wasn't going to travel to Germany to face somone hardly knows especially after the Seoul robbery.

Dariusz for damn sure wasn't leaving Europe.

No one ever avoided Calzaghe ****stick. How about Calzaghe and the tiger dodging each other? They were fighting motor cycle mechanics and coat racks for 10 years while Bhop and Jones were in real fights. Joe wasn't anywhere near good enough for anyone to bother avoiding.

The simple answer is yes they did. Jones also missed out on fighting DM, who was the true Light Heavyweight Champion. All of Jones belts at one time belonged to DM, but were taken for polical reasons.

With hindsight you can say Hopkins missed a defining fight with Calzaghe when both were closer to their primes. But at the time Calzaghe was really only given his due respect in the UK, hell ring magazine had freaking Ottke as number 1 at 168lbs. :-(

Fact is Calzaghe was seen as a euro level fighter back then and had Hopkins won it would not at that time been regarded as a such a great win. Much like when Jones Jr beat Hopkins, at the time it was a solid win but became a great win based upon what Hopkins would go on to acheive.

As for Jones fighting DM, yes he definately missed out on a defining fight. DM was a beast during his prime and was lineal champion and it's rather sad Jones never fought the then dominant guy at light heavyweight. It's as bad as Haye not fighting the Klitschko's (though I still have hope that will happen) or when Bowe refused to fight Lewis.

At the time their was no fight bigger than DM for Jones. And for the knowledgable fans it would have been one Jones best wins along with Hopkins and Toney. And don't even talk about Ruiz, Toney put into context how little that victory really meant when he beat the hell out of Ruiz.

Probably the most significant fights in boxing have been the ones that didn't happen. How much easier it would be to rank fighters if everyone fought eachother...

Robert :patsch:patsch:patsch. Only you could be so stupid. Michalczewski had claim to all of Jones belts and should have been made Ring champ. Know the facts.
Hopkins backed out of fighting Calzaghe for a massive payday. Know the facts.
Both were willing to fight in America even though they were the champs.
Robert manages to fail every single time. What a tit
