no offence but what has ormond done to deserve a crack at a version of the world crown:verysad... if ormond does fight burns anytime soon... it will make a mockery of the sport:deal

    Yeah exactly.

What do I think? I think it's a ridiculous non story. Even in boxing where **** talking and hyping are at a premium thats stretching credibility. If he said to me 'and I truly believe that given a few more fights, I can beat Ricky Burns' I'd tell him to go and get his head tested.

Sure I'll call out Sergio Martinez and Dimitry Pirog. I think if I keep drinking the loopy juice I'll be able to take them out in a few fights time.

I'm all for talking up Irish prospects and being confident but between Ormond saying this and Fitz talking about being World level it's all a little embarassing really. Ormond or Fitz would get starchified anywhere near World level.

comparin ormond and fitz ...way of mark ..yeah the two of them are talkin big but the difference in talent is vast
    do ye think willie is is goin to embares himself after 11 ish fights {3 prizefighter 3 rounders}
At the moment Ormond would get starched , but he has much better chance and pedigree than Fitz , I think he could if he keeps progressing , Fitz on the other hand the nearest he is getting to a world title is the wbf version and he will be doing well to win that .

Ormond said 'given a few fights' he could beat Ricky Burns. How many is a few? Lets say 5?

He's 28 and has 8 fights and has only fought shithouse fighters (if we're going to be talking about world level here) lets be honest. Miracles do happen I know but it would literally take a miracle for him to get to world level in the next 5 fights. Fight someone who is at leat mid Euro leve before you start talking about fighting Ricky Burns and world titles. It's just garbage talk to be honest. It has no more weight than me saying I'm going to win the marathon at the next Olympics just because I can run 42km without stopping.

I agree with ye bambam but he has got his name out there a bit from the article and its the only way he is going to get people to take notice of him which he has done to a certain extent also he has probably looked at the records of burns first 2 title defecences and said why not me . He dos have some good potential though and you have to agree he is 100 times more likeley to fight for a "world title" than Fitzgerald.

I think you are underestimating Ormond a little Bamski!

The is definately a really good talent and I think he could get to European level this year, there are a lot of good (not great) British SFWs at the moment, as Prizefighter proved, and there are a lot of relatively easily made fights that can be made for him.

Now that he is back in Ireland and enjoying the fruits of a FW contract and regular outings he can make quick progress.

The time he spent in America was pretty aimless and in his last fight over their he came in as a Light Middleweight, with his opponent over the limit.

Now he is in cracking shape and down to super featherweight I really believe he can make waves in 2011.

Him calling out Burns is a lot more credible than some of the other more recent call outs.

Surely look who Burns was fighting before he got a shot at Martinez?

    :good

I'm not saying he's a shithouse by any means. He's decent. If he has more potential then great lets have it in 2011! Way too early to be talking of world titles and calling people out. There's no harm talking yourself up but you also don't want to make yourself sound silly.

I know burns didn't fight a collection of super troopers prior to winning the title but he'd boxed Arthur, Earl, Johansonn and a couple of good African lads (IIRC) in high profile fights while those lads were at their best and, despite losing a couple, really learned by taking the hard road. Ormond has a long, long, long way to go before he's anywhere near that level.

Make them waves before talking about world titles. I agree there have been worse call outs but just because other people talk more nonsense doesn't make it alright to be talking his own nonsense either. Get on with the boxing and leave the slabberin to Mr Banjo!

Think McGurn has worked with Stephen Haughian since Dunne's retirement, although I don't know of any other fighters he's worked with since.

i agree with ye moorser trained with stephen for years and he has the talent and engine to reach world level if he keeps his head down i really believe he could challenge for a world title so dont see anything wrong with his statement after a FEW fights he could quite possibly be up there.
