Silva Belfort weigh in was nuts

I dunno about Anderson beating him at the weigh ins, looked like he was the one that was pissed off, all Vitor was saying is "you're a good person". Anderson just wants Vitor to come out agressive because that will play into his hands and that's all this is about.

 

silva is using the get in his head technique like chael sonnen!

i love vitor, he is my first love in mma BUT he is front runner. this often means more of a mental front runner than a physical one.

nevertheless, i hope he looks spectacular tonight.

 

I dont think that an aggressive Vitor plays into Silvas hands, I think a cautious Belfort is what Anderson would want.

 

One of my first UFC that I have seen was when Belford beat the crap out of Tank Abbot.

Hey Yaca You, I know you are a big Silva fan so I'd like to ask you, has Anderson's relatively poor performance on the feet vs Sonnen given you cause for concern ahead of a fight with Belfort, or do you attribute the way Sonnen was able to get to Anderson on the feet fully to Silva's rib injury? I am hoping for an impressive Silva victory tonight, but I can't shake off the thought that Sonnen did very well standing up with Silva, so Silva must be in real decline by now (as the 2008 Silva would have KO'd Sonnen standing up IMO), and Belfort is a much, much better boxer than Sonnen. I'm not sure if this is the case though, just wondering about it.

same here. i dont think vitor is "scared" of anyone i just think sometimes he questions his own ability.
you can bet your life if silva slapped him or something vitor would have cut loose.

 

I'm guessing the biggest factor in Sonnen landing the shots he did was Andersons somewhat awkward transition between striking and takedown defence.

While Vitor's not near to Chael in terms of wrestling(although vastly superior in BJJ) I think that using the threat of the takedown effectively could be the key to sucess in this match. Go for a couple of takedowns then like Sonnen fake one and when Anderson sets himself and drops his hands to defend it land a big shot.

The aggro Silva is due for a return, indeed.

 

Silva wasnt expecting sonnen to be as aggressive standing as he was in their fight (I wrote my response to this in your thread a few days ago) I just think that fight should not be seen as the criteria for judging Silvas abilities as Anderson had the rib injury and Sonnen tested positive for PED's after the fight.

Remember Silva was only outstruck in the first round when it was a surprise to anderson that sonnen was able to absorb silvas strikes and walk through them in a display of courage, determination, and roid rage.

Sonnen walked through Silvas strikes and took Anderson down he did not stand in the pocket and outstrike silva he used his aggression to get into a position where Silva had to trade with Sonnen when he did Cheal went for the takedown. It was a very good stretegy and was prformed with perfection until cheal made a big error in the fourth.

I have compared that fight (the aspect of the inferior striker controling the superior with aggression and using it to set up a takedown)with Couture vs Liddell I, couture the inferior striker was able to press forward and take down his opponent being completely in control of the action.

This is a different fight.

I dont believe this is an easy fight for Silva. The champion could easily lose this fight his defence is not nearly good enough for Anderson to stand in range of vitor and trade with him. Vitor has power, vitor has speed, and throws in explosive flurries to treat him as Anderson has treated Griffith would be absurd.

Anderson Silva knows the danger and will be cautious and chip away at Vitor. It wont take too long Vitor will crumble. When that happens I think silva will pounce hard, to finish him. Thats how I see it anyway. cautious fight with some intensity in spots and in the second round, maybe later, a tko victory for Silva.

I do think it is amusing that so many wish for the demise of Silva- why?

They seem to keep hoping against the odds for the underdog (in this case a live underdog) to win.

To that, I can only say you better prepare yourselves for disappointment. The odds favour it.

Should Anderson lose their will be much celebration and much shitting on Silva from great heights. This is something I am prepared for.

I know that the line will be Anderson silva got exposed! he never fought a striker and now we see that his striking was always overated. The same bull**** they say about Chuck Liddell.

What can you do?

Ps. Oh, and I agree that Silva is probably on the decline, similar to how Fedor has been on the decline the past years, time catches up to us all...thats one of the things that makes combat sports so thrilling.

I dont worry though I think even a declining Anderson beats Belfor, not that vitor is a bad fighter but that silva has the better mental conditioning he has come from behind a few times to win but also that silvas moving and countering style is the way to put Vitor off.

Anderson also has the ability to pounce when he sees an opening and can be patient to wait for it.

I am not worried.

I do get the feeling Anderson may be on the slide, but I hope I'm wrong. I'd like him to show his 06-08 form again and dismantle Belfort tonight, so it sets up a genuine Superfight with GSP later this year.
