HBO should stick it to you ungrateful douchebags and get out of the boxing business.

Then all these fighters who demand guarantees would have to go back to the ghetto.

    Good post and fair point.

I have no problem with losers recieving money, but HBO boxing has been lacking lately and while its not all their fault (promoters, managers, fighters) they pull plenty of decisions that makes one confused at their decision making.

Then wheres the incentive for blossoming fighters to go out of their comfort zone and take risks instead of milking what they can? Nothing wrong with tossing in a little garuntee for some of these guys to make must have fights.

If they want to fight big fights for big money they have to come out of their comfort zones. Likewise if they want to establish their reputation they have to fight tougher opponents. You should not offer large incentives for the type of lousy efforts we've seen last week. I sure as hell don't want to see Alexander on HBO for awhile.

They certainly make some bad business decisions but no network is more committed to broadcasting and promoting boxing than they are. A few short months ago they put their foot down and insisted that Khan fight Maidana or they were not interested in Khan anymore and we got one of the best fights of the year that answered a lot of questions. HBO is bringing us another great evenly matched fight in a couple of weeks that is better than any matchup that Showtime has on their schedule.

I can't believe the amount of power Pac/Arum have over people here. Arum bad mouths HBO and signs a couple of fights with Showtime and now all of these so-called boxing fans don't have a positive word to say about HBO. Threads about cancelling HBO subscriptions, etc. :verysad:-(

I like Teddy fine and I think he brings value to boxing, I disagree with his point on this issue. HBO did what they needed to do to get this fight done, simple as that. These are two young fighters, who risked a lot to put on this fight, win or lose they are both still of value and why not lock up two young solid fighters long term?

    Youre right :good

Had to even go change my post because of it

HBO might not be doing everything right, but its not as bad as I was thinking at all. And they are truly one of the last true bastions of boxing.

I think everything is enhanced by Showtimes recent boxing surge, with them trying the super six, the bantamweight tourny, signing Pac, Cotto, ect, and that casts a shadow somewhat on HBO in peoples minds a bit I think, but its not as bad as I thought. Good post.

I agree to a point. What do you mean by They "risked a lot"? This is professional boxing, and you are on the main stage. You better risk a lot, you're getting paid an exceptionally large amount of money. This guarantee for the loser does not help one's drive for success though. If you keep feeding them, how do you expect them to ever be hungry??
