Yushin Okami was supposed to be next in line for a shot at the middleweight belt. However, it has been officially stated that if GSP beats Jake Shields, he will be the one that gets the shot. GSP/Silva is obviously the fight that most fans want to see, and it will make the UFC a lot more money than a fight with Okami ever would, but nevertheless, Okami has been screwed out of a title shot. This is all counting on GSP beating Shields, obviously. So who does Okami fight instead? Why can't Silva fight Okami in the next 5-6 weeks? He recieved no damage in the Belfort fight, and Yushin is due a fight any time now. GSP is fighting Shields on April 30'th. Silva/Okami could realistically also face off in April. What do you guys think? Should Silva just wait to fight GSP, or should he fight again before that? It is a risk, but Okami deserves his shot.
I think the bottom line is I cant see Yushin winning against Silva. He was already outwrestled by Sonnen. Ok he will take Silva down, but what the hell has Okami done but bore you to death when hes on someones guard. This will get stood up enough times to get his face smashed in.
I can't see Okami winning, although he will undoubtedly have a bit of success with his wrestling. Either get it on in the next month or so, or make Okami wait for the winner of GSP-Silva. I can't see any fan that would be pissed at getting GSP-Silva in return.
Personally I think Anderson should move up to LHW, then the fact that Okami hasnt lost to Anderson could be used to add legitimancey to the first title fight without him.
Okami can wait, it's unfair but that's the way life is. I do think the UFC could get the fight done in time but they would probably have to put another card on so it won't happen. I say if he's prepared to take one the UFC should give Okami a match up in between. One that suits him stylistically but shall keep him active and earning.
Its unfare but if Okami-Silva happens I guarantee every last person on this site will ***** that the dream fight between GSP and Silva isnt happening. No bigger fight then a potential GSP-Silva both have pretty much cleaned out the divisons so **** it make Okami fight another fighter. Okami just keeps winning but he rarely finishes and is never THAT dominant so I think guys like him gotta keep winning until there is no other possible options.
agreed. it's fair to say okami-silva is silva's ticket to boasting he's legitimately cleaned out the division, but money talks in any sport so watch this space
If he is worthy of a title shot he will keep winning. Whats the big deal? Put him in against Damian Maia or even Alan Belcher
Silva vs Okami on the undercard of GSP vs Shields would be huge. Especially with Aldo on that. UFC should do it. Silva is untouched and on that card, the guys should get paid right.
