I follow MMA, I watch what appeals to me, sometimes I don't watch a card that doesn't excite me. I like MMA as a sport, not a company. And stop with that "small heavyweight" ****. He's a heavyweight, alright. That's his weight, I don't care about his reach or height or stature, that's the weight he fights at and generally speaking Heavyweights don't belong in a P4P ranking, and even if they do, which I can understand Fedor being in there for, he's not number one. You'd be the fanboy to think otherwise.
P4P is about WHO is the best fighter at ANY weight. Fedor is basically a small heavyweight by ANY standard at a pudgy 230lbs. Frankly im fairly certain he could make 205 if he really wanted too. Taking into account the depth of his opposition and WHO he has beaten which has ranged from men 7ft tall and over 400lbs to ATG heavys in CC Nog Schilt etc who have had far more physical advantages over his relatively small stature. Fans are arguing the toss over GSP being the best. GSP wont even move to 185. When he does and he starts beating men consistently larger than him in the same fashion that Fedor has done il sit up and take note. Far as im concerned they're only two fighters worthy of the number one spot. Fedor or Silva. Both have had long extended win streaks. ( although of course Fedor's is more significant including his opposition ) And both have utterly dominated at their weight as well as against competition with larger physical advantages. The key for me is domination. No one in MMA has come as close to Fedor and Silva in terms of looking truly untouchable. For my money im sticking with Fedor. As much like a prime Mike Tyson he didnt just beat his opponents he brutalised them in a fashion NEVER seen or witnessed before in MMA. Put that man at ANY weight and i assure you he will be a wrecking ball. We know this because we've all seen the footage.....
You're missing the point. It's not about if they go up and weight and beat the **** out of everyone. It's at that weight. It's pound for pound. Who is the most skilled fighter, who is the best fighter. I don't believe you can argue it for anyone other than Silva, GSP or Aldo, regardless of resume. And even if you want to put resume's together, GSP's and Silva's are the best you'll get along with Fedor's. Fedor isn't the best fighter in the world. He's got a great resume, a little weak recently, but for the heavyweight division today he hasn't a win that's relevant, we'll see how that changes as the tournament goes on. Silva and GSP are still top dog, but I really disagree with your notion of "when they beat higher weight competition i'll take note". I don't think p4p is about weight and beating competiton heavier or at a different weight, it's who's the best in the world. GSP could never leave Welterweight and still be either #1 or #2. Physical advantages pale in comparison to skill. Quite frankly, I'd give GSP credit over his laundry list of wins and how he's dominated people in his class over Fedor's wins over bigger men.
