i was sparring today and i got a liver shot but instead of with his fist he used his palm and it hurt more. any reason why?
it was kind of like a shovel hook but it was with the palm. now stop being an ass and try to help me please
it hurt more because he hit you harder, the palm is a very effective weapon, but it's not a legal striking surface in boxing
so even in bareknuckle if im clinching im better off hitting him in the liver with a palm then a punch? wow you learn something new everyday
i know. im assuming thats y it hurt more and in a street fight ro bare knuckle match a fist would work better
No way. If you're bare knuckle you're better off hitting the liver with your second set of knuckles. If you hit it hard enough you can actually rupture the liver, it's a common injury in car accidents if someone hits an angled surface with the bottom of their rib cage (steering wheel or gear stick or whatever). Obviously very dangerous and not something I recommend busting out in training.
Even with a glove on, hitting with the knuckles has a more direct transfer of force, I just gave an explanation as to why you got hurt. Occasionally you can also really hurt people by 'slapping' with a hook, but it doesn't mean it's a consistently better punch.
