If Shogun beats Jones , what is the better option ??...

    By that logic would you then imply that a Fedor vs BJ Penn fight would be on par. Skillwise perhaps it would, but it simply wouldn't be a completive fight. So skill alone isn't the determining factor, rather it's one of many.

    With a different variation on how the outcome is achieved, I very much think it's somewhat along the lines of Penn vs GSP, where the bigger skilled guy beats the smaller skilled guy. But if it's on, I'm definately going to watch it, and being Canadian if GSP wins, I'm a happy man.

    i would rather silva / rua as it would be fireworks but clearly gsp / silva is the best marketable fight out there

    You can pad the arguement all you want debating skills, cleaned out the division, Brazilians lack wrestling, GSP having the whitest teeth and so on

    I'll keep it simple. From a personal point of view Id like to see both matches. But if I had to choose, Id pick Shogun V Silva

    Why? Because Id rather see two of he most devastating strikers who are a similar size face off in a fight than face he prospect of another damp squib of a match in relation to how it was hyped like BJ & GSP was.

    Goodness gracious me !!!!! , where to begin with this one :yikes

    St Pierre , is / was a stand up fighter before me became a wrestler , see his early MMA fights in Canada , hense the name Rush , he finished his 3 of his first 4 opponents in the first round and one of them in the 2nd , he holds a TKO win over Jay Heiron and made Matt Hughes look stupid on the feet in his prime , he is a good stand up fighter not because his opponent worries about TD's (although that is a factor) but because he is very well versed in the stand up aspect of the sport .

    How can you turn St Pierre's (todays version) greatest strength (wrestling and top game) into some sort of deluded theory that he is not well rounded because his opponent is " sapped of there strength " due to St Pierre's dominant top game .............. :lol: its just ludacris what your suggesting . The fact St Pierre never has his back on the canvas is a testiment to how " WELL ROUNDED HE IS " :huh, not how well rounded he isnt . :deal

    Penn's weakness is off his back :lol: he was a BJJ Black belt with Nova Uniao @20 !!!!!!! , whats more he was a BJJ world champion (in the Black belt competition) as practically a novice compared to his peers , and incidentally was renouned in the BJJ world for having an extroadinary guard !!!!! , BJ Penn's weakness is certainly not off his back ............................... i cant beleive ive just utter'd them words in reply to a post about Penn :nut

    GSP outstruck Koscheck because he is a better striker than Koscheck in every single department of the stand up game , he wrestled Hardy because Hardy is a stand up fighter who cant wrestle , he mixed it with Fitch because he could and put a beat down on a seemingly invincable athlete compared to the WW field , he wrestled and dominated the stand up with the most well rounded STRIKER in MMA , Thaigo Alves , please do not get mistaken that GSP is a 1 dimentional wrestler or indeed his skill set is any weaker than anyone else's because he dominates with wrestling and top position , that is in accurate and short sighted .

    It shows a complete mis understanding for the sport of MMA when broken down into the seperate disciplines and then forged together to form the mixed martial artisit , but dont get concerned your not the only one on here who does that !!! :good

    Las but not least , you say GSP will not survive the stand up battle with Silva in between the grappling exchanges , see the Chael Sonnen fight , the one were Silva was hurt on multiple occasions and dropped twice by a Roman Greco Wrestler :deal

    TBH this was my though process behind starting this thread , for me its a no brainer , i hold Shogun Silva above all fights in MMA , maybe im just attracted to there " devestating " styles more than i am anything else .

    Was suprised reading through to see things like " its not even close " , " its a no brainer " in favour of Silva GSP , clearly people havent seen Shogun's early fights in which he went 12 & 0 in Pride at one point , that version of Shogun would run over any version of Anderson Silva im sure of it , and against Machida he showed he was some where near that type of devestating athlete , so to that end if i was the UFC id be getting the PR machine behind a possible 205 showdown starring Shogun and Silva .

    Just my opinion

    It's a bit silly totally dismissing either isnt it. Both matched would be fantastic and both for different reasons.

    GSP vs Silva just doesn't seem like a good fight to me. GSP is my favorite fighter and could clean out 185 with the exception of Anderson. he is just too ****in big for GSP. i mean the guy goes up to 205 and knocks people out no problem. Rua Silva seems much more competitive. i think GSP will be a great middle weight and should move up, but not for the superfight, at least not right away.

    Shogun vs Silva would be more competitive. Silva can fight @ 205.

    Shogun-Silva is the more legit AND more exciting fight.... Anderson is too big & too good a striker for GSP, he is really a LHW & should definitely face the Rua-Jones winner.

    Actually I think the reverse might be true, I could see GSP holding Anderson down for a decision yet losing to someone with better wrestling who exploits the size difference more effectively as a result.

    To me Anderson/GSP is too much like BJ/GSP, its a massive fight for the smaller guy but without the smaller guy building himself up at the new weightclass first its not going to seal the bigger guys legacey.

    Shogun/Silva would be a career defining fight for both men aswell as olmost certainly a better fight, not just standing either as I'd guess you'd also see some nice aggresive exchanges of grappling/GnP.

    I think Shogun & Silva are the 2 best right now tbh, GSP is on their level tho no doubt but Shogun v Silva would be fkn out of this world... & both are similar in size so no excuses for the loser, GSP is too small IMO.

    I would say you have to be ******ed to want to see GSP get wiped out easily by Silva rather than an explosive 50/50 fight between the top 2 strikers in the game.... & more well rounded doesnt always = better.

    Any sane person would rather Silva-Rua, **** the bs hype.

    GSP getting TKO`d by Matt Serra right in the heart of his best ever run & absolute prime should automatically rule him out from facing the bigger & far, far superior striker in Anderson Silva........ & Sonnen coming within a minute or 2 of taking Silva`s title should mean that its not wise to put Silva in there with a much bigger & far superior fighter than Sonnen like Shogun Rua, is this the **** your saying ?... because we cant have 1 rule for 1 & another rule for the rest.
