It's almost 10 years since the fight and I have a feeling people will still admire and pay respect to this war in the next decade
There's like 4 Lewis-Klitschko threads at any moment in the universe with angry Russians talking about hypothetical decision wins and defensive Brits talking about blind Ukranian guy being stopped because of said blindness and accumulated punishment. It is truly beautiful.
No need to care. It's irrefutable who won the fight. Lewis by TKO or stoppage by inflicted injury (cuts) :yep
The "headbutt" was a right hand. Lennox was out of shape and Klitschko STILL couldn`t beat him. End of story.:hi:
I had Klitschko up on the cards but i do believe he was losing his grip throughout the 6th round. Great heart but i feel Lewis was taking over. Dont get me wrong, when you see Lewis slump on his stool at the end of 6 the pace is taking its toll on his much much older legs. However he`d learnt how to cushion Vitalis offense and was being a lot more selective with his, hence the uppercuts and right crosses that were begginning to really slow the Ukranian. He was evidentally the holding culprit in every clinch and almost seemed out on his feet during the last 25 seconds of the 6th. Would have loved to see another round or two it was such an enthralling contest which in my opinion could maybe have gone a little longer. I think the controversy is blown out of all proportion though as the damage was more than sufficient to warrant a stoppage.
I watched it again and I've switched up my views. Lewis would've ended it in rounds 8-9. He was landing that right/uppercut beautifuly and fluently. Klitschko was ready to go.
the way lewis fell down on his stool a beaten man..then relized the doctor stoped the fight was unreal..great fight.
It was the best heavyweight fight in years. Klitschko was ahead, but Lewis did open up a huge cut, and it was right for the doctor to call the fight. If it wasn't for the cut, I think Klitschko would have won, because I even see Klitschko landing some very hard punches in the 6th round and Lewis was out, after the 6th round, though Klitschko was very fatigued as well. If it wasn't for the cut, I'd have given Klitschko the edge on winning the fight by tko in 8th or 9th, however, Lewis did land punches to open up that cut. And if it would have went on, could have been very serious repercussions for Vitali. That is a part of boxing. Lewis rightly got the win. However, there should have been a rematch.
