On the undercard of the Crolla v Watson fight on Saturday. Wright's been knocking about just under British level for what seems to have been ages not much a punch but pretty stylish. Has faced most of the top light welters in Britain and come close against Olusegen and beaten Arthur. Not been that active over last year though. I've seem Speight fight a few times in Torquay, unbeaten in 8, doesn't have a punch either, but mixes up good combinations, good upper body movement and throws a stack of punches. The people who he's beaten have to be fair appalling records though. Don't think he's had much time to prepare for this fight but could be fun while it lasts.
Saw this looks like a decent bit of matchmaking. Strange fight to have over 6 round, this struck me as a 8 round fight. 6 Rounds is for novice fighters and fighters that are taking a fight to keep active and is taking on your token journeymen that is there to lose.
What do I know, he got completely thrown in over his head and outclassed. Not sure what the point of that was, or after Lewis Browing getting beaten by Flanigan the other day at bantamweight maybe the westcountry is the new latvia
Why was that kid put in with Wright - it was man against boy. I was surprised that he was in there with Wright with such inexperience - poorly managed.
He's possibly two good for his own good when it comes to a fight like that. If you're good enough to beat Wright, then you're probably in or around the level good enough to beat Daws. So you may aswell just go for the British title fight.

Wright was the top amateur in the country when I was Am, him, Daniel Happe, Gavin Smith and Steven Matthews- top class
don't know who manages speight but if they keep matching him like that he won't have much of a career.
I thought it was a real shame, that is just going to damage Speight's confidence. I thought when they announced the fight that it seemed a bit early, Speight doesn't have much punch so had nothing to dissuade Wright, so the greater experience and ringcraft of Wright was always going to make it a nightmare for Speight. Felt sorry for him, hope he picks himself up and realizes that it was poor matchmaking rather than a problem with him.
