Victorian Susie Ramandan continues to kick ass.

Her undefeated record now stands at 14 wins (6 by KO), and she's collected the vacant WBF super bantamweight title, as well as a couple of OPBF titles and a national title.

The Brizzi Bros. trained Susie has a technique puts a lot of guys in the shade.

She's defending her WBF title very shortly at the the Coburg Town Hall.

Not a bad looking card for the Coburg Town Hall either:

*Daniel Ianazzo will be looking to add another belt to his collection.
*The talented, but underutilized, Serge Yannick is matched up.
*Young, undefeated Dwight Richie, son of Darcy Ritchie, is also featured.

Susie 'Q' ready to take on the world

by Mischa Merz (July 9th 2010)

IN 42 years as a trainer, Ben Brizzi says he always dreamed of one day having a fighter who could move like Muhammad Ali with dazzling footwork, great hand speed and quick reflexes.

''I just never expected it to be a girl,'' he said.

In a new twist to an old sport, male boxing stalwarts the Brizzi Brothers - Ben and Cos - now have a female as their marquee fighter, the first they have trained for competition and now the most high-profile pugilist in their Preston gym.

Bantamweight Susie ''Q'' Ramadan is a World Boxing Federation champion, Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation champion and World Boxing Council aspirant. The World Boxing Council belt is well within her grasp since she's already rated in the international top 10.

''One of our ex-fighters recommended us to her,'' said Brizzi, ''and she came into the gym one night. I thought she probably wouldn't fight, although I could see she had a lot of natural ability.

''She drove us mad, always asking us when she was going to fight, and so about four months after she started, we decided she was training that hard and going that good that I thought why not put her in. And in that first fight she stopped the girl in one-and-a-half rounds, just outclassed her.''

Ramadan, 30, a former soccer player, decided not to contest the national amateur championships in 2008 and instead turned professional. The following year it was announced that women's boxing would be included in the 2012 Olympics.

Of her 15 professional bouts, many have been against game but overmatched imports from Thailand. However, she has twice beaten New Zealand-based world kickboxing champion Michelle Preston and been up against solid opposition such as Christina Tai - a female version of the journeyman. And all have tested her resilience and footwork, not to mention her adaptability.

She was scheduled for a rematch with Tai but chose instead to take her chances against the unseen but more experienced Kenyan, Jane Kavulani, who in 22 encounters has fought world champions including the Danish batamweight Anita Christensen, losing twice by unanimous decision, once in 2006 and again last year. Ramadan's clash with her will take place tonight at Coburg Town Hall on a six-fight card.

''Her great strength is her athleticism and her balance and movement,'' said Brizzi of his fighter, ''In 21 fights, she's hardly copped a decent punch.''

Ramadan's professional career is less than three years old but promoter Charlie Liparota says she's more than ready to advance to the next level and Kavulani is just the beginning. He has her pencilled in for a second promotion on October 15.

''I think she's very talented, but people are waiting for her to take a step up … I'd hate to see her in two years' time still fighting at the Coburg Town Hall. She should at least have one crack overseas and she needs to have a go pretty soon,'' he said.

Ramadan is just as keen to make a name for herself on the international stage since there are few, if any, suitable opponents for her in Australia. Most of the more talented local boxers in her weight class are now remaining amateur in the hopes of making the first Olympic or Commonwealth teams.

''Definitely my goal is to fight overseas in Europe and America. It's something I'd love to experience,'' she said. ''To show the world what we Aussies are capable of.''

Former International Boxing Federation world champion, commentator and promoter Barry Michael said critics of women's boxing should watch Ramadan: ''I think she's an absolutely brilliant boxer.''

    Another title belt for Susie

    Northcote Leader Newspaper
    c/o News Limited (14th July 2010)

SUSIE Ramadan joined Australia’s boxing elite on Friday night when she defeated All-African champion Jane Kavulani to claim the World Boxing Federation bantamweight title.

The Reservoir boxer won the stoush over 10 rounds at Coburg Town Hall, continuing her unbeaten record since turning professional two years ago.

It is her second world title, adding to the WBF super bantamweight championship she won in December last year.

The first Australian woman to win two world titles, Ramadan will now focus on winning International Boxing Association, World Boxing Association and World Boxing Council titles, to become the first woman in the world to hold all four major international crowns.

Ramadan trains with Brizzi Brothers Gym and is a Preston Leader senior Sports Star nominee.

Ramadan vs Cruz on Feb 20th

    by Ray Wheatley–World of Boxing-13th Feb 2011

Australian bantamweight Susie Ramadan (19-0, 8 KOs) will have the biggest test of her career when she will clash with Terri Lynn Cruz (17-6-2, 8 KOs) of the USA for the vacant IBF world championship bout over ten rounds at the Reggio Calabria Club in Brunswick, Victoria, Australia on February 20.

Ramadan, 31 years, had her best wins in 2010 when she scored a shut-out eight round decision over Maria Jose Nunez of Uruguay in Melbourne. Nunez visited the canvas in round one of their fight.

Yarkor Chavez Annan of Ghana was stopped in three rounds by Ramadan in 2010 in another impressive performance. Terri Lynn Cruz is based in Denver Colorado and has extensive international experience.

In 2005, Cruz, 39 years, captured the IFBA international title by defeating Heather Percival in a ten round decision. In 2006 Eun-Young Kim was outscored over ten rounds in Seoul, South Korea. In 2009 Alesia Graf won a ten round split decision over Cruz in Hamburg, Germany.

Promoter Sam Brizzi said, “Terri Lynn Cruz has a very good record and Susie Ramadan will have to be at her best to win the IBF world title.”

Brizzi continued, “The IBF has a great history with Australian boxers like Jeff Fenech, Kostya Tszyu, Barry Michael, Lester Ellis, Vic Darchinyan, Gairy St Claire and Robbie Peden holding the IBF world titles. I am confident that Susie will be Australia’s next IBF world champion.”

The promoter is Sam Brizzi and the matchmaker Ben Brizzi.

Good luck to her and also to the Brizzi's who have been in boxing for decades.

    They deserve all the success.
