Any thoughts? No one seems to be giving him a chance here and I think that is very foolish.

Solis is coming into this fight as something of an unknown quantity, he has never fought for a title before, is not a name and has no hype surrounding him. However I think when you look at it objectively this is going to be Vitali's toughest fight since coming back. Solis has good power and a good chin, but he is also very skilled. He's like Sam Peter only with a heck of a lot more nous and finesse.

I don't think he's there for the payday, he's used to fighting in Germany, has few miles on the clock, has never been beat up and is undefeated. I also like the way he holds a high guard. It's deceptive how little he actually gets hit in fights.

Of course there's the possbility a very overweight Solis lacks the stamina or pace to put pressure on, but I think Solis is alot better than he showed against Austin. I think when you factor Vitali's age, and the fact that this is a mandatory not voluntary defence, then I think it could be a good fight. I can't see how an old Briggs, Sosnowski, Johnson or Gomez could be seen as tougher fights? And I think Arreola and Peter were both out of shape and made for Vitali to dominate.

What do you guys think? Legitimate contender or another hapless victim?

if Solis was in the same shape as in his first professional fight, then I'd agree with you. but now ...:-( my heart will be on his side, but chances are small.

    Think Solis is being underestimated.
Superb fighter, just needs to get in shape. His lack of height will hurt him though.

Na, if he came in tip top shape he would have a decent chance. However most heavies who fight for the championship dont come in on shape sad but true.

Off course he's just in it for the payday, why do you think he and Oner turned down several previous offers for a voluntary shot? They wanted to wait until he was a mandatory to get the best possible purse split. That's also why he signed a option to fight Wlad for some extra cash.

Solis is nowhere near ready to face Klitschko, he's got only 17 fights and the highest rated fighter he's faced is Ray Austin, and he hardly looked good against him. Solis couldn't even take out a very tall Julius Long......while Sam Peter iced him in 1 round. Solis is just like Arreola and Peter as you mentioned, he's not dedicated to training and keeping his weight in check, he'll be a plodder that won't be able to figure out Vitali's various angles and how to get inside the left arm.

This fight will show how much punishment Solis can handle, and maybe how much heart he has.....but I wouldn't call it Vitali's toughest fight since coming back by a long-shot.

    My vote is.....hapless victim.

Before his hamburger addiction he actually was a danger for the division and the 2 broters. He can be again, if he just dedicates himself and gets in shape again... but that would probably never happen, because he's still denying it affects him (even after the lackluster performance against Austin) and he doesn't even seem to like the sport.

He's just another waste in the division, and will get quite a beating from Vitali I recon.

No one can help but underestimate him, he barely comes in decent shape and hasn't fought enough. The heavyweight division is so poor now that all you need is a few professional fights and you're #1 contender.

    i like the high guard

    i like the hard chin

i like that he is a very accurate puncher with fast hands

    but he isnt busy

he stands in no mans land without throwing

his body is left open and Vitali does throw body shots unlike Wlad

He tired vs Austin who put zero pressure and didnt make that fight difficult at all

Vitali will eat him there... he lately claimed that his weight doesn't affect his speed and that that it's been proved scientific :yep

In his opinion Jabba from Star Wars isn't any slower than Manny Pacquiao.

At the weigh in it will become very clear. Even Solis has given up on his own chances of winning.
