How long have you watched boxing for, and how did you get into it?

First fight were i kinda had knowledge was Gomez v Gatti. Hatton v Mayweather made me into a big boxing fan. Been too alot of world title fights in the 3 years since then travelled abroad to see Froch v Kessler and even sat ringside for a bit of journo on Booth v Marsh. Great sport love it.

My dads mate Prince Rodney won the British light middle title in the 80s.Cant remember the exact year but I remember watching his fights.Through that I became aware of other fighters and started watching fights when they were on TV.

You may be right mate. Maybe I was thinking of Collins/Eubank which, as it happens, was before that? Sure that one was on ITV? I dunno, it was years ago now.

    Not that long really.

I don;t remember what 'got me into' boxing, but one day I just started hitting a punch bag we had in the house and wanting to be a boxer. I trained at home for a year until I found a club.

On the TV front, Amir Khan in the Olympics is the earliest I remember and him turning pro, I watched all that. Sitting in the living room with the coal fire on and by 11 o'clock it being so hot having to sit with no t-shirt on.

The first fight I really remember was Calzaghe vs Bika, and I thought it was a superb tough fight, and I really liked it. Then it just continued from there, watching all the shows, I remember Earl vs Katsidas, Youseff Al Hamidi outboxing John Murray and handling a young Crolla, Derry Mathews vs Choi, and loads of other fights.

    I just loved it.

I also remember going to my Grans house, which had Sky, and wathcing Hopkins vs Wright and then the Cintron vs Mathysse/ Gatti vs Gomez/ Margarito vs Williams

And I remember buying my first Boxing Monthly with Cotto vs Judah on the front and with Margarito being the most feared man in boxing, and I just idolised Margarito from then on.

Then we got Setanta and the first fight I stayed up for was Margarito vs Cotto, says it all really. And also Pacquiao vs Marquez II (but I may have fell asleep during it and watched it in the morning.

Then I became the total boxing nerd I am today.

I'd watched boxing on and off for a while before but if i was to think back I remember being off sick and a replay of Wlad vs Peter 1 was on and that got me hooked. Was a good fight to get me interested as it really showed one punch can change a fight. I think thats when I started staying up late for random fights rather than the ones on Sky or Hatton shows.

I only really watched big fights including British boxers until Oscar v Floyd, the hype for that hooked me in. I think I was at Uni at the time and saw a few promos on Sky Sports and watched the fight on a replay on Sky Sports 1 days later. Hatton v Mayweather followed and had one of the biggest promotions for a UK fighter ever, that really pumped me up and then not long after I joined BóxíngScéné in January 2008 and broadened my horizon's from there. I've only started posting here recently as BóxíngScéné is just full of wannabe gangsters and only one out of ten discussions isn't about Mayweather and/or Pacquiao.
