You'd better get us a couple of ringside tickets, Ishy.

    We have to be there.

Y'know, just so we know its not another doctored video, so we know its real.

Its the only way we can be sure.

Loving this fight I went for Donaire stoppage. He is a terrific fighter both technically and physically, I think he could be the next p4p #1 after Manny and Floyd retire.

In less than six hours WBC and WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel and former flyweight champion Nonito Donaire will both participate in an open media workout at the Top Rank Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada in advance of their HBO-televised clash this Saturday night. Montiel was actually able to sweep into the gym unnoticed last night, at least by most individuals, and he participated in a workout of his own inside the facility.

Juan Perez, who oversees duties at the gym, told me the facility is no longer open to the public because their was too much drama taking place inside the building between various cohorts from the boxing world in recent times. The facility has hosted some of boxing's biggest stars over the years and is now used for only special occasions.

You can consider Montiel-Donaire that exact kind of event.

Montiel sports a 44-2-2 record with 34 knockouts and is coming off of a renaissance year in 2010 in which he went 4-0, all knockouts, while also scoring a huge upset over Hozumi Hasegawa in Japan. Well-traveled photographer Rafael Soto was on hand to witness Montiel in training last night and he definitely looks shredded and ready for battle with the fight just a few odd days away.

In Donaire he will be going up against one of the sport's rising talents, a man with much acumen, speed, power, and unorthodoxy. Donaire put in some rigorous work for this contest at the Undisputed Boxing Gym in San Carlos, California and is priming himself for the fight of his life.

    Tom (Reading, United Kingdom)

Fernando best of luck for Saturday. Do you think this fight is the key to having your name listed among the great Mexican Fighters such as Julio Chavez, Salvador Sanchez, Marco Antonio Barerra etc.?
    Fernando Montiel (3:51 PM)

My aspirations are to be thought of the best. But when you're talking about Chavez, no one can get to that level. Everyone else can settle for second best.

    Nice :good
I also asked him if he would come to the UK for a fight, wait and see if he will answer.

this is trully a fight fans fight. i have been waiting for it for a long time. its your classic boxer puncher vs boxer puncher. both guys are athletic, both can bang and they both have an aggresive mentality. i am a bit worried as Montiel has a habbit of bouncing around the ring when he sees danger and can stay on the outside agaisnt big punchers. if he wins the fight i think it will be a stinker and he has the ability to do that.

lets remember the Jhonny Gozalez fight. Gonzalez is a simualr style to Donaire. tall, throw angled shots, long jab. to win Montiel wants to make it a boxing match he can use his big jab and try to control the centre of the ring. Montiel can be a negative fighter. Donaire keeps his right hand low. Montiel will be able to jab Donaires face off all night if he doesnt keep that hand up. Donaire has allot of hand speed but he tends to go to fast at times, technique goes out of the window and he is open to big shots.

For me Donaire, his first major fight for a long time he will be looking to make a statement and put it on Montiel from the first bell. Even though Montiel has been at Bantamweight a long time Donaire is the bigger man. its a huge advantage. what it will come down to is Donaire is the bigger stronger guy.

The Hasegawa fight was a huge win for Montiel but if you watch it he lost every second up until the stoppage. Hasegawa was out boxing him, Montiel couldn't deal with his speed and size of HH and to be honest he got a lucky punch away. it was well times but i think more of a mistake from HH and he never recoverd.

I get the sense Montiel knowing this is his last big run is going to have to be aggressive and take risks to get on the inside. i like Montiels expirience but Donaire is a world class fighter thats learnt his trade and will be able to handle it and the size, speed and power of donaire will win the day.

If Donaire is patient with the jab, controls the centre of the ring i think he wins this fight. and if Montiel comes to fight he wins it by KO.
