If 'Cobra' Froch beats Johnson & Ward, is he your number 1 smw of alltimes?

He has a shot. However, we all know the real number one smw of all time is "the Phantom".

I already rate him above Joe anyway because he is facing the best guys out there in their primes. Good on Joe for remaining undefeated but I value level of opposition over that in regards to greatness.

Froch has a pretty good resume then, but you honestly can't count the Dirrel win and guys like Calzaghe/Toney/Jones/Hopkins would beat him 10 out of 10.
So by accomplishment he would be pretty good, but heck his chances of beating Ward are real small, Johnson is a tough fight and in an unlikely rematch with Dirrel he won't be the favourite.

Well, I don't think so yet...
If he beats old man Johnson (probably) and wins the final against reasonably unproven Ward (only beat one really good, but over the hill SMW), he would not surpass Calzaghy yet.
If he manages to beat Bute and stays champion for a while after probably, but number one ever after Johnson and Ward is pushing it.

I think Froch's recent resume is as good as anyones.

However I also think Calzaghe would beat him with relative ease.

I've been on the Froch bandwagon since the Pascal fight but if I had to be honest I'd say he'll have a very hard time beating either fighter. I've seen this thread and ones like it several times but to be frank this is getting way a head of ourselves.

    No

If he wins the supersix, beats Bute and stay's undefeated for about 4 years then we can talk about it.

Seriously? Sorry, but his resume at smw is already as good as Calzaghe´s, yeah, he has the loss to Kessler and the narrow win over Dirrell but that´s compensated with more depth at the top. If he indeed beats Johnson and Ward he can be ranked number one. If he adds Bute to that he is number one. I hope he does.

No. Beating a 42 year old Johnson, whos best win at 168 is against Allan Green. Ward would be a very good win, easily Froch's best but that still doesn't put him anywhere close to JC. Add Bute and another few defences before he passes that.
