my all time fav boxer i wish he would stay retired. im sure he can get a couple wins in, but once he steps up the level of competition it will be all over for him
I like Vargas a lot. A while ago, I messaged him on MySpace and he was really friendly, though I was a fan years before that. I stopped watching boxing for a while and I remember seeing him on an ITV2 weekly boxing show, I think, and he was on there. I didn't know who he was but I remembered his hair and thought "He looks like a dick" but then he fought like a warrior, so I became a fan of that "dick" Some guys can have a decent return if they have a long enough break. Here's hoping Vargas can too.
no your a idiot A former business manager of retired professional boxer Fernando Vargas has been arrested on suspicion of stealing from the two-time world champion, authorities said. Joseph Louis Pecora, 54, of Camarillo was arrested Monday by Ventura County Sheriffs Department deputies on suspicion of grand theft by embezzlement and forgery, jail records show. He remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $15,000 bail. The arrest of Pecora, who had access to Vargas bank accounts while working for the boxer, followed an investigation that began several years ago when Vargas reported a theft, said sheriffs Capt. Rick Barrios. He was involved in the grand theft and forgery of one or more of those accounts, and after an extensive investigation we had probable cause to arrest him for those charges, Barrios said of the suspect. Pecora was arrested without incident in Camarillo, the captain said. Barrios said he could not comment further on details of the case because of the sensitivity of the continuing investigation. Vargas attorney, Greg Ramirez, said Pecora worked with Vargas as a business manager from the late 1990s until the Oxnard native discovered about two years ago that he had no money in one of his bank accounts. Ramirez said his clients, who include Vargas and his wife, allege Pecora pocketed about $400,000 with ploys including forging Vargas name on checks. When the theft is added to alleged mismanagement of their financial affairs, Vargas and his wife estimate their losses in the millions, Ramirez said, adding that the Vargas family had to move out of their Camarillo home as a result. He thought he had millions of dollars in the bank, and now he might have to start training to get back in the ring again, Ramirez said of Vargas. Hes got to support his family. Many of the allegations against Pecora are detailed in a 2009 lawsuit filed in the case on behalf of Fernando and Martha Vargas and their businesses, Ferocious Inc., Vargas Entertainment and Promotions, Nawshis Clothing and Comida Feroz. The 59-page civil complaint includes claims of fraud, breach of oral contract and professional negligence. It names Pecora; his accountant, Martin Marietta; Veronica Bustamante, an employee of Mariettas; and businesses including CBIZ Tax, Accounting and Advisory Services and affiliates. Pecoras daughter, Christina Pecora, is also named as a defendant, but she is not included among those accused of fraud. The suit alleges that after developing a close personal friendship with Vargas and working with him for over a decade, Joseph Pecora misappropriated hundreds of thousands of dollars in conjunction with Marietta, Bustamante and the CBIZ businesses. The suit alleges that from 2004 to 2008, the defendants assured Vargas and his wife that they were financially healthy, their money was available at anytime and strict regulations were in place to prevent theft. The suit alleges that in 2008, the plaintiffs learned their accounts were overdrawn and numerous forged checks had been drawn against the accounts. It also alleges they later found the same defendants suspected of fraud used the money to buy condominiums in Miami. The suit also claims Joseph Pecora tricked Vargas into signing blank checks that he made out to unauthorized recipients. Pecora never responded to the lawsuit, Ramirez said. Attempts to locate a lawyer for Pecora were unsuccessful. Mark Krum, an attorney for CBIZ and Marietta, said in a statement that the allegations against his clients were groundless. The claims made against them by the Vargas parties are without merit, Krum said. Christina Pecoras attorney, Glenn Campbell, said his client did absolutely nothing wrong. Campbell said someone forged his clients signature on documents, and he expects the suit against her to be dismissed. No one other than Joseph Pecora has been arrested in the case, Barrios said. He is to appear in Ventura County Superior Court today. Read more: http://www.vcstar.com/news/2010/jun...ormer-business-manager-accused/#ixzz1Edvx5MJN - vcstar.com
He had one of those unfortunate careers, too much too soon. The Trinidad fight all but ruined him. I heard his comeback was pushed back to May because he contracted pneumonia, hopefully it will be continuously postponed and he can take it as a sign that it's a bad idea. Him vs Mayorga was a sorry sight.
