Donaire #3 in The Ring pound for pound list? bs

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Babyface_Johnny, Feb 22, 2011.

  1. I get all the hype coming from Nonito, he's a great fighter, very very fast, athletic and agile like no one.. but giving the title of #3 p4p its a little too much
and saying his knockout win over Montiel was more impressive than Sergio Martinez's over paul williams i'ts not true, even Montiel got up, but Williams was plain knockd the f_ck out. It seems people has forgotten that great knockout.
It's not about if im a hater or not, but people has to give credit to great fighters like Sergio Martinez and JMM.
    My humble opinion :bbb

Oscar doesn't personally pick out who ranks where in The Ring's P4P list. their voting panel consists of 45+ well known boxing writers from around the world (Kevin Iole of Yahoo and Dan Raphael of ESPn are among them). Personally I think Donaire and Martinez are tied for 3rd place, especially now that it's been revealed, that Martinez beat a Kelly Pavlik who was just 10 days removed from an alcohol rehab clinic.

Bad bday present for Maravilla Martinez, happy birthday son, you are bumped out of the top 3 for someone who did the exact thing you did a few months ago, brutally KO another top P4P'er. Hype train BS. I like Nonoito too, but c'mon Sergios number 3, Donaire I have behind JMM as well.

I didnt remove Floyd from the list, I have him at #6. His last two fights were against a bloated JMM and a blood drained Mosley.

I have the same top 5 as yours but to say that Sergio Martinez has consistantly taken on the better opposition compared to Donaire is just all wrong. Last I checked, his quality oppponents consisted only of three - Williams, Pavlik and Cintron.

Before that, he fought Alex Bunema (30-5) and mostly unknown guys with less than 20 wins such as Archak TerMeliksetian (16-6), David Torivio (14-10), Pavel Florin Madalin (3-34) and Oliver Tchinda (1-7).

Donaire has Montiel, Sydorenko and Darchinyan as quality opponents and in addition, fought guys with better records than Martinez's opponents, such as Hernan Marquez (27-1), Raul Martinez (24-0) and Luis Maldonado (35-2).

I've said it before and I'll agree now. Although they're both the class of the sport under Pacweather, to me, so I don't particularly care much either way how people have it.
