Donaire is brilliant... but can never be as great as Pacquiao, and this is why

    i think donaire is an amazing fighter.

    how many active fighters have stopped two p4p top 10 ranked fighters in their careers?

    i can think of only two, pacquiao (4 - barrera, morales, hatton, cotto) and mayweather (2 - corrales, hatton).

    but it's easy to get carried away saying he could be as good as manny, or better.

    this is not going to happen.


    consider the evidence:


    donaire is 28 years old now, 29 this year.

    he has beaten 2 top fighters - darchinyan and montiel.

    he is a legit 2-weight world champ, a 3-weight champ if you consider the WBA "interim" superfly title



    by the time pacquiao was in his 29th year...

    he had beaten: sasakul, ledwaba, marco antonio barrera twice, erik morales twice.

    he was a legit 3-weight world champ, a 4-weight champ if you consider the WBC Int'l sfw title he defended vs Morales and Barrera (he wouldn't win major title til he was 29 vs Marquez)




    so pacquiao is already miles ahead career-wise, and this was before his career took off in a way that i really doubt donaire (or anyone else) could ever match.


    donaire's first world title was at flyweight, same as pacquiao. is he going to finish his career winning titles at ww & lmw, fighting guys the size of margarito, cotto & mosley???

    i dont think so.

    I personally think with his power he can move to 147
    his slick style will keep him from parkinsons
    I tho pac couldnt do it so why not nonito and we all no he hits really hard

    u think donaire, at 28 and at 118lbs, is going to end his career at 147???

    i dont think its possible.

    i'm not interested in your judgement of me, the question is can donaire be as great as pacquiao, explain your answer or **** off somewhere else.

    They're both filipinos, we get it. Donaire had a great fight this weekend, can we leave Pacquiao out of discussion for one freaking time ? Manny is a great athlete, but there's no need for other boxers to climb divisions like he did. Donaire can beat the Mares/Agbeko/Darchinyan and other of this world and have a tremendous career.

    One of my favorite boxer of all time is Marvelous Marvin Hagler. He didn't climbed the divisions, but nobody cares because he was a great fighter.

    they're both filippino, they both won their 1st world titles at flyweight, they're both active, they're both explosive, they're both brilliant, max kellerman asked donaire about pacquiao in his post-fight interview at the weekend...


    ...if you don't like the comparisons you better go live in the Tora-Bora mountains in Afghanistan for a couple of years, because it is not going to stop!!!!

    Being as great as Pac and ending his career at 147 are two completely different things. Remember, Pac only had one fight at 135 and one at 140. Donaire could end his career at lightweight (which I think is possible) and completely clean out each division up to 135. Saying he could never be as great as Pac at this stage in his career just doesnt make any sense.

    Of course you cannot compare Donaire with Pacquiao. It's a no brainer. Donaire had said in his post fight ring interview with Kellerman that he is happy being #2 behind Pacman. He has utmost respect for Manny and knows he won't be great as Manny.:D

    Nobody will ever move up as many weight classes and win as many titles in differet weight classes as Pacquiao. But depending on the level f competition Donaire faces and beats, his career might be spoken in the same breath as Pacquiao one day when people speak about the best fighters to ever come out of the Filipines.

    He'll have a lot of work to do in the next few years to catch Pacquiao up, that's for sure. But Pacquiao is the consensus best fighter of the decade, a gazillion weight champion etc etc so it's unfair to compare really, and a bit unnecessary. Even if you're almost certainly correct.
