His record was 19-2-2 (6 KO's), at the time he fought Roberto Duran in August 1975.

Duran RULED the lightweight division for seven years. his only loss at the weight was to De Jesus,which he avenged by K0 twice ! Roberto took on all top contenders to his title. He was the champion. The over the weight ,no title fights were just to stay busy. when he was;nt fighting , Duran partied adnwent up in weight. Ray Arcel was the trainer ,he said ,''Keep this kid busy or he's going to run wild !'' This was the reason for these fights. Duran also loved to fight . Do'nt be fooled, Duran fought the best.

 

Funny that a lot of those 0-2 , 0-4, 1-1, 2-2, 3-5 guys, fought a ten rounder on debut!
