I think Acosta got sloppy in there at times, and it really cost him. The two KD's were a result of him being off balance and he seemed content to almost fight in a careless manner. I think he was getting tired towards the end, but that's his own fault because he moved way more than he needed to. And I thought Acosta let Rios off the hook a couple of times when Rios seemed hurt--I guess Miguel thought he might get him later on. Point being, Acosta beat himself tonight more than Rios won this fight. I give Brandon credit for actually scoring the winning punches, but that sequence doesn't happen if Miguel is just a little more careful and fights a bit more conservatively. I don't think much of Rios, to be honest. I thought he was getting beat to the punch all night long, and he does a poor job of cutting off the ring.
After getting KD the first time ( by a jab ) , his legs were still a little shaky, though he did finish off strong that round. The 2nd one might have been because he was off balance, but not the first.
I was hoping Acosta would beat Rios. The only reason I didnt bet on him was because I wasnt sure he would be able to handle Rios pressure for 12 hard rounds and wasnt sold on his chin.
Rios's style is very beatable. (All he does is come forward) But he's basically Maidana-Lite, a true brawler with a granite chin who never stops coming at you.
I do think Acosta let him off the hook at one point, but I think Rios' power and pressure may have had just a little something to do with his constant movement and wearing down. The KD's were legit, the first, Acosta admitted hurt him and he wasn't the same in the fight after that. and it showed, his legs weren't the same.
ya, you're right.....acosta should've been announced the new champ, and basically taken the title from himself... idiot
Acosta didnt do that bad I tought it was a draw at that point and he was winning the 10th, especially in the beginning of the round when he was moving a lot. He should have stayed away from the ropes.
The first KD was a result of him moving directly to his left as the jab was being landed. I'm not saying the punch didn't land, but I am saying Miguel was off-balance when it did land.
I think Rios' chin is far from granite. I think Acosta had him hurt on a couple of occasions but he just didn't follow through with the punishment.
Against a pressure fighter, you can't keep moving back into the ropes too much. You gotta hold your ground and move laterally. Acosta did the best he could, but Rios deserves all the credit for the win. Showed amazing determination and stamina. Peds? Just kidding.
