you want to train at high altitude but rest (sleep) and low. when fighters go to big bear etc it doesn't do a great deal more in terms of building stamina, its more about the seclusion and the tough work getting them into the mentality of fighting.

i read a few articles the other week about this, will have to see if i can find them. victor conte's got donaire doing this hypoxic training, and he mentions that training and sleeping at altitude would be great if you're a long distance runner and only need aerobic fitness, but it's detrimental to boxers who need explosive speed, power and strength as well.

EDIT - here's the article with video

    This ain't a good idea.

The research, as I understand it, says your body adapts to the altitude but to get the benefits you then have to perform at that altitude. So training at high and performing at low is as bad as training at low but performing at high.

Should Conte be allowed anywhere near a professional athlete again?

Worrying ain't it...... especially when he's got two guys who are doing fantastic atm. Always leaves an air of worry around there work/success/development.

he is working with Donaire and Ward atm. he did an interview last week where he said due to the testing being so weak he wouldn't be surprised if the majority of world champions are taking stuff.

you realise Ariza has been caught doing similar stuff to Conte?

probably not, but on the other hand anyone working with conte now is going to be under more scrutiny than most, and donaire has said he's more than willing to undergo random blood testing.

on mandanda's point, i know ward used conte for supplements a while back but i'm not sure he's a part of 'team ward' like he is with nonito. and nonito knocked out darchinyan with the exact same shot he hit montiel with, before conte came along, its just skill, speed and natural talent that makes him so good IMO.

He is working with Ward in the same way he is working with Donaire.

Random testing 365 days a year is the only way forward but thats pretty much impossible in boxing.

Ive read somewhere that there are doubts whether it makes a difference once you stop training at 'altitude'

I can understand how it works for those kind of atletes, runners swimmers, cyclists. But boxers, mma, I would have thought they would need to be sparring in those types of condtions to be any good, is that not why Khan relocated to L.A and a few other boxers go over to Tenerife to train.

  14. I think the main reason for Khan going over to LA is Freddie Roach.

The evidence is that it's probably not.
