Just watched JCC vs Meldrick Taylor

Yep, biased ****s.... you can hear the outrage in their voices when Steele waves it off... Im glad Chavez won.

 

That was primarily Duva's fault. Going into that last round, Duva told him he needed to go out there and fight his heart out; that he needed the round to win. Meldrick responded accordingly and lost the fight. Then again, I'm not sure how much better he'd have fared in the first place, given the beating he had absorbed going into that last round. What can you do, though? What happened happened.

the ref did the correct thing...one more good punch from chavez might have taken taylor to the morgue instead of the hospital :-(

Taylor gets respect for leaving it out in the ring. Legend.

 

Bad stoppage that ruined medrick taylors career he wasnt the same after that. I feel if he wouldve won that fight which he shouldve his career might have turn out differently. Is not the same to take a beating and lose than to take that beating and at least win.

And then, they had the rematch years later, and Chavez got to finish the job :-(

 

Meldrick still looked pretty damn good directly after that fight. The long-term problem was with moving up in weight due to his terrible management. He just didn't have the physical attributes/style (barring speed) to cope with most of the top guys. That said, his victory over undefeated Welterweight "Superman" Davis was an excellent one and indicative that he hadn't really lost much in the way of overall ability. The fight that really ruined him was the Espana thrashing, which incidentally took place just after he'd been stopped in 4 by Terry Norris at Jr. Middle of all places. Truly terrible management, I have to reiterate.

I feel that Lou Duva and Team Taylor cashed out on Taylor with the Terry Norris fight. Taylor had just struggled in a title defense against Glenwood Brown, being dropped twice and looking shaky when he took clean shots.

So then they have Taylor go up in weight again to face Norris?

 

I don't think much changes. He can't make 140 comfortably so he goes to 147.

He still beats Davis for the WBA title, but the division was about to be loaded. Whitaker, Brown, Espana (mandatory and a terrible style match for TNT), Quartey, Trinidad.
