what can cotto do to be at floyds level without actually beating floyd?

Forget moving up. Cotto should establish himself as an all time great Welterweight by fighting the best available competition there is. To much stock is put into fighting at all these different weight classes.

He can wipe out the division, but Floyd kicked ass from 130-154...even if Cotto beats up on the welters (after beating some good junior welters), he is no Floyd.

he would have to clear out 147. fight Hatton (or whoever else is the man)at 140 and then take over and rule at 154. That's enough big fights against really high quality opposition to make up for the lack of the 4th and 5th divisions that floyd has.

It would be tough, but not out of the question. But it would also take years to do so.
