    Fair points but this

"arguably one of the hardest hitting HWs of all-time"

Is a bit of a stretch regardless of who said it.

Douglas parked "Blow Torch" Williams like a Cadillac in round 7 with a wicked left hook, right cross...

I totally forgot about this fight...:bbb

yeah, i think that fight is (or once was) on youtube.
wasn't the big deal that williams gave tyson trouble
in sparring or some ish like that?

Aside from Mike Williams stopping a faded Jim Tillis early his career, Williams lost all his big fights...

Mike Williams was better suited for sparring more so than world class boxing...

Losses to "Spoon, Douglas, Alex Garcia" and a few other dude's isn't cool for Williams' record...

He closed with a record of 22-6

Surprisingly, this time, Byrd wasn't just on your mind, Dude. I thought of him when reading the OP too.

Bowe had a good career but a match well made is a match half won. Buster fought more guys who wanted to win before he got a title shot.

    .

berbick was knocked out by bernardo mercado and a peak ATG in tyson. outside of those wins berbick was a real wild card who nobody wanted to fight. he beat a peak thomas when thomas was regarded as the best in the world. he gave everyone a tough time, a real who needs him kind of guy. name one guy with that kind of rep who bowe fought before holyfeild? just ask rock newman

bowe never fought unbeaten fighters until after he won a title. bert cooper, pinklon thomas and bruce seldon were on losing streaks when bowe fought them.it was a more manufactured resume.

Ferguson was. Douglas fought him in a espn tournament to find a contender, it was a competitive cross roads fight that was close. jesse only won 6 of his last 12 when he fought bowe but back when he fought buster he was 11-0. big diffrence.

buster was a 5 fight novice when he got caught aganst david bey who proved to be a dangerous fighter who had a 12 fight ko streak before beating page to earn a shot at holmes within 3 years. douglas was still delivered as the first oponent for david bey in his home town. Douglas was not riding on a manufactured career as the house fighter.

Its easier to have a beter career when you are matched as the prospect.

dude, you can't argue that berbick was the same in '89
then he was from '78-'86. just can't happen.

where did you not read when i said you could use the
ferguson fight in an example as a positive for douglas?
you're rambling about careers and fights i already am
well acquainted with. read the fine print, bud. :good

I think the opposite is true. "Tokyo" Douglas is picked over some ATGs by some people. While that indeed was his night and he indeed could have had a better career he just is not in that class. Even at his very best. In Tokyo he was lucky. For him everything came together and while Mike still was in his prime, he wasn´t at his best. He was f*cked by all that happened and didn´t took Douglas seriously. And he still managed to knock Douglas down for a longcount - I´m not saying he should have won - imagine what Tyson at his very best would have done? The machine from 86 to 88? I´d pick him to beat "Tokyo" Buster. I don´t think this performance is up there with Dempsey´s in Toledo, Schmeling´s against Louis the first time or Fraizer´s in the fotc. It´s a step below. As is Douglas as a fighter. Still an excellent win and a very, very good performance though.

Buster had some natural gifts, but as far as fulfilling his potential goes,he was one of the "For one night only brigade" Along with Leon Spinks and Ingemar Johansson.

I think you may be over-selling buster a little here. I dont think hes underated as hes always got his dues for beating Tyson (fairly and squarely) but apart from that fight, he hasnt really got a great deal to be rated about. Flashes and glimpses of what he could fight like arent good enough, he wasnt consistent and thats his own doing. His capitulation against Tucker and Holyfield will kinda count against him in these types of threads. The Tyson fight was his Bellini, he was exceptional that night, but it would be hard for him to fight to that standard everytime. If he WAS capable of doing it then we could be talking a top10, but then we could say that about a lot of guys on their best day.
