Going into this weekends fight, I think a lot of us are expecting Mayorga to go down against Cotto like he did Oscar, Mosley and Trinidad. But, I dont think Cotto has shown as much "greatness" as those three guys. Plus, he is not as strong as those guys either imo. Shane, Tito, and Oscar all had great punch resistance when they fought him. Cotto was more hurt, more frequently in his career than any of those guys and he doesnt seem to have the same confidence at times. Dont get me wrong, he is a very confident fighter, but he also can get derailed against a guy who is a little mentally tougher and can punch. I think Cotto will win on Saturday, but I think we will learn a lot about his level of greatness and mental toughness in doing so.
We shouldnt count Mayorga out thats for sure. Mayorga will be a tough one and I dont think Cotto will dispose of him in four rounds maybe eight rounds.
some people are.. cotto is a real good boxer, but not great.. mayorga will definitely be tough for him, especially in the early rounds.. cotto just needs to box smart and not get caught in a war and let it last out to the late rounds when mayorga's smog filled lungs catch up to him, but he does look like he trained and prepared better for this fight than the mosley fight..
i just remember how big and imposing he looked in there with Mosley. Cotto is not going to be able to bully mayorga. Imo he needs to beat him by outboxing him with speed and Cotto is shown in the past that he doesnt fight particularly well when hes circling his opponents. Plus he could use his jab better than he does. I think Manny could be his best asset going into this fight and hopefully he has Corrected Cottos posture in the ring and has him throwing more jabs. He looked better in his last fight, but he still needs to look even better this time out.

if he does the cotto fade, it could be ugly, but i think manny will get him ready, and have a good plan in place
Who's talking about Cotto greatness?? :think Anyway, i agree its a tougher fight than what most people are expecting.
The Mayorga who fought Trinidad and Oscar was significantly younger and fresher than the 2011 version.
Cotto is a bigger favorite against Mayorga than Pac against Mosley or Vitali Klitschko against Solis.
And the Mayorga who was so awkward and difficult to adjust to (Mosley's word)? I may be wrong (hell it's boxing!) but i'm anticipating a tough fight for Cotto (still think he wins).
Cotto's greatness has nothing to do with his skillset... it has everything to do with the fact that he'll fight ANYBODY, he doesn't make excuses, he's humble and he's a true warrior. That's what endears him to boxing fans and his lack of punch resistance is part of what makes him so exciting. Watch his fight against Torres and you'll see what I mean. Cotto has the heart of a champion.
I think the fight will be either one extreme or the other. Very tough and competitive or a total walk-over win for Cotto. Not much in between.
Well thats why I still favor Cotto in this fight. I would favor the Mayorga that fought Forrest over Cotto 8 times out of 10.
