So Hooper moved up to light heavy and beat Jake Carr (Vic) 9-8 to add a 81kg title to the two 75's. Jake Carr had a real crack though and led for a lot of the fight, he was like a man on a mission. that said Hooper stayed relaxed and the real difference was that and his uppercuts that not only scored but then seemed affect jake's timing. jake carr should be watched though - many of you would probably remember his old man rocket rod carr who fought pro in, i reckon the late 80's - a journeyman at best but a deadset tough you know what - rod trains his son with a little help from barry michaels the major stuff up of the tourney (would it be oz amateur boxing without a stuff up?) was in the youth section that is 17&18 year olds - all of the state titles were considered 2010 titles the nationals were considered 2011 (for some stupid reason the comm games meant the national titles were pushed back and then didnt happen in 2010) as a result the only 18year olds that were able to fight were those who turned 18 in jan or feb of this year - in order to be eligible you must not turn 19 the same year as the tournament - so those 18 year olds that qualified winning their state's title in 2010 weren't able to represent. a mix up at Vic's end meant three boys were scratched post weigh in when they saw the doc. i dont know if the other states were given the same wrong info. my young bloke at 75kg's was one of the ones that missed out having turned 18 last year. i'll post his state title win in the next week or so.
I wonder how much growing Hooper has left? His already a tall and trim fella, prefect frame for boixng IMO...
Yeah - he's perfect in every way except perhaps between the ears. he'll go pro after the next olympics and he'll make super middle without a problem - its the amateur weigh in everyday that is troubling him. what the bet khoder is all over him already. i know hooper was sparing with garth woods prior to the mundine fight and i know he has already knocked back offers to turn pro i dont have any details
and he probably deserved it given the closness and way carr fought but i think there was also a bit of star struckness that went in to making the decision also
Props to Hooper....cant wait to see him turn Pro....Jake Carr IMO will do very well in the pros starting in about 18 months....I have watched him spar some high profile pros and come out looking the goods For a young bloke Carr will only get better the more he grows into his body but hes got all the skill....best of luck to the young lad :good I would love to see this fight...how can I get it??????????????????
I dont think they record much Am boxing, you would have to hit up the parents and coaches for that ****!
Yeah I know...maybe Raxman knows someone :good This fight would have been great to watch IMO....both guys would shake up most guys on the aust pro scene now...they are 2 or our best :good
At the Oz titles you could buy a single fight for $25 or the whole tournament for $250. Im not from Vic so Im not sure who you would contact now but Boxingvic would be a good start.
