I read an article that Joe Frazier lives alone in an apartment one staircase above the gym where he and others train young fighters in a run-down part of town. Also it says that he has lost millions in failed business deals.. Read the article its from te New York Times... Its so sad... http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/18/sports/othersports/18frazier.html?pagewanted=2&_r=2
Frazier makes his living off of appearances, signing memorbila and such. He's not well off, but he's not broke either. On par with a retired elder citizen with limited education if you will. His apartment, which was shown on the HBO document, Thirlla in Minalla " looked like a dump that had little upkeep. I highly recommend watching the Thirlla in Minalla doc. It is outstanding, and offers numerous takes from the people who were at the fight.
Doesn't seem to have made a great deal of money in the numerous lawsuits that he's filed over the last couple of years. I assume he thought that he would be able to live out the remainder of his life on the $84 million that he was seeking against the 476 homeowners he was attempting to sue.
Just wondering, would anyone here to pay to see say Joe Frazier spar Tyson, Holmes, Holyfield or even Foreman, nowadays? I think i might.
He sold his gym so he doesnt live there anymore. He is flying to the UK for a public appearance and still has an assisstant and manager so he cant be to broke.
Its sad he sold his gym. That was such a piece of history, and a huge part of his life. Can you imagine. That was the gym that was purchased for him when he turned pro.
no it ain't.........!! don't get me wrong. i am not saying i like it or something .. but.... most boxers made a hell of a lot of money more then i will ever earn in my intire life.. there are millions of people like me.. not highly educated people who work with there hands.. who work hard for there wives and kids.. we can only dream of making a million or 2 or more.. so all boxers who end up broke.. are themselves to blaim they had the opportunity to insure themselves and there familie financiele independence and they blew it.. one way or another..
Can't be a bad life, flying around the world......Talking. Keeps him occupied, most old people would love to be occupied. How the **** did he end up in this situation though..????
Not sad at all. It should be a lesson to those who do make it about investing money and making it work for you. Could be an argument for the various councils to actually do something for the boxers for once and set up pensions with a percentage deducted from ring earnings. Not so much for those who make millions but for those who just eke out a living.
mate that sound about right because i remember seeing an article about how he was selling the gym for $2.5m should be a millionaire now id thats the case???...i hope so fav fighter of alll time
