obviously no one knows about Liston. Liston was an awesome talent. The heavyweight division had never seen someone 6'1 with fists measuring 15 inches in circumference (bigger than Carnera's or Willard's). He strengthened his muscles in his 17 1/2 inch neck by standing on his head for a couple of hours a day while listening to his favorite song "Night Train." His left jab knocked people out, a jab in the same class as Joe Louis's. His left hook would later be compared to Joe Frazier's, and his uppercut would be compared to George Foreman's. Liston's one round destruction of Floyd Patterson in 1962 was a fair example of Liston's dominance, which brought an end to Patterson's reign (the one-round chaos repeated in the rematch). The press called Liston "invincible." When Liston won, it was a massacre. Lewis was cool, but Liston was classic. Liston only loses to Lewis if he takes a dive.
I know a fair amount about Liston, enough that didn't provide me with any info I didn't already know. That said I still think I'd favour Lewis but it's no cake walk for either. I'd put the odds at 60-40 Lewis and it wouldn't be an upset if Liston won. But there is a huge size difference between the two, although surprisingly enough, their reach is about the same. As many have said a focused Lewis on a H2H basis is a nightmare for any fighter who ever fought, I'd I'd only pick a handful to give him trouble, and Liston is included within this handful.
Nobody that Lewis has ever fought punches harder then Liston. Sonny knocked people out with just his JAB alone. Lennox shaky chin would not hold up against the Fire Power that Liston will throw at him.
Tua, Vitali, Briggs and Bruno (just to name a few) all hit hard... probably almost as hard as Liston. Granted they weren't as good as Liston, but those guys hit ****ing hard.
