people will look back at this ukranian guy and say martinez beat a unknown 154lb fighter, they'll look at the williams win and say paul was overrated, if he beats mayweather they'll claim mayweather was old and was coming off a lay off in order to secure a legacy i guess he would have to put on a clinic against the recognized no.1 at 168.

    Was just thinking exactly this.

    Pacquaio would be too small
    Mayweather too old
If Ward or Froch win super 6 and he beats one of those (which he'd have a good chance against both) then that is probably the most realistic route - not much at middle for him

    Time is running out though

Beat everyone in the division and keep defending the title, become unified champion and his legacy will be remembered.. Ala Hopkins ;)

Mayweather would not be dismissed as an 'old fighter'...give me a break, he's still the man to beat

Whoever beats him is guaranteed a place in boxing history

This is his best bet. He should unify the titles as quickly as possible and maybe mix in a couple of big fights at 168.

Beating Pac/Floyd/Cotto would do very little for his legacy IMO.

by the way why was that for the vacant Diamond belt?

I thought the WBC awarded it to him after stripping him of the regular title that he won?!

I wouldn't bother unifying the titles, they don't have any credibility any more.

Just do what Marquez is doing, stopping #1 contender after #1 contender.

Give over, Mayweather would do plenty for him. So would Pacquiao. Pacquiao is a proven phenom, size hasn't even come into the equation for him. It's helped him if anything.

Otherwise he'll just have to beat contenders and unify etc. try and build a legacy by consistency. That'll be tough due to age.

well he has the Ring title so ideally he should go and fight Sturm and Slyvester and maybe go to Germany to do it where he will get excellent money.

Don't think he needs to move up to Super Middle, makes me laugh that the *******s are calling Martinez a hypocrite because he said he is too small. He quite clearly is too small for 168, the likes of Froch and Kessler are big guys.

    As for the question, Cotto-Strum-Sylvester.

I'd unify the titles, Zibik ,Pirog, Golovkin and Strum are very easy fights for Martinez in my eyes. Win all then maybe inflict first defeats to Chavez jnr and Lemeumx on the way, pretty good legacy to me.

I'm happy with what he's been doing, definitely one of my favourite fighters. Nobody beats him at MW.

he can fight pirog in a big unificiation fight.

he could fight kirkland for a good fight.

he could beat sturm for another belt.

if winky does fight again and look good, fight winky in a good fight.

basically unify the middleweight divsion, beat every top fighter in light middle and middleweight and do it in style.

maybe catchweight title fight vs top super middleweight?.
