Sturm is a good fighter and that would be a quality win.... However id give Pac or Mayweather a better chance at beating Martinez than Sturm... Also what fight would you rather watch? I know Sturm is your countryman but serously people would be stoked for Martinez vs May or Pac... Only hard core fans or Germans would care about a Sturm-Martinez fight.
Well, I think Pac´s and Mayeather´s 147+ resumes are a bit lackluster. What makes it better is that both moved up there from those low weights. Napoles´ is just better. Napoles hasn´t won titles above 147, true, but honestly winning a belt in a one of fight doesn´t mean much. Napoles put in a decent effort against a consensus Top3 atg mw. We haven´t seen anything similar of Pac or Mayweather so far thus I give Jose the benefit of the doubt. Yes. So? LaMotta isn´t a Top10 mw either. IMO at least. The only reason I rank him decently high, like borderline Top15, is because he had the balls to fight some of the murderer´s row - and on relativly even terms that is. But not because he beat Robinson - of course beating Robinson is part of his resume though.
Ah, I don´t really like Sturm and it´s not about me as a German wanting to see Martinez fighting Sturm. I want to see Martinez cleaning out mw. I´d prefer him fighting men of his size. Of course people would want Martinez to fight Floyd or Manny. Those are the big names. Doesn´t mean they would be the best fights though. Most Germans know only that there is a guy called Martinez that owns another belt. Sturm-Sylvester II, Sylvester-Zbik or Stuem-Zbik would all be much bigger than Sturm-Martinez.
The jokes on you if you think that 5'7 Carmen Basillo would have handled Dzinziruk as easily, and brutally as Martinez did. The jokes also on you if think Ray Robinson was 5'11, natural middleweight, and a southpaw who punches from weird angles. Am I saying that Martinez was better than Robinson? Noooo. But his style is better suited to deal with Basillo. I repeat.... Martinez would cut Basillo's overrated ass to pieces.
Yeah, Robinson never threw punches with speed or angles. And **** that over-rated Basilio who was basically just a plodder with lots of heart and no real skills.
We'll agree to disagree on FMJ/Pac square up against Napoles. Allot of people rate Lamotta top10 and pick him over Hagler/Hopkins, which I think is madness, truly he had more balls than most ANYWAY What was your opinion of Dzinderuk, I rated him very highly since seeing him against Santos but didn't get to see many of his fights and that 1 may have flattered to deceive. I did think he was a live body entering this match up
:good Dzinziruk was very good a few years back. A good Eastern-European-style boxer-puncher with decent pop and a great jab. But he had a long lay-off and his opposition level afterwards wasn´t really stellar. He wasn´t as good as in 2008 anymore, a bit slower, less acurate. Not by much though. Still good and probably the best sww after Martinez and Williams moved up. I still pick him to beat Cotto for example. I picked Martinez to beat him due to Dzin not beeing very proven, specially recently, but by decision like 8-4. I did not expect such a dominant performance. Either Martinez is better than I thought or Sergej not quite as good as I thought. The truth is probably in the middle.
What i want to know is how a win over an aging, extremely inactive fighter i thought was ok about...five or six years ago and was in his physical prime nearly a decade ago(while never beating anyone better than the very ordinary Santos) relates to fighting "teh ALLTIME GREEATS!" or whatever. Yeah i know Martinez is old too, but i thought this was one of those fights you just enjoy for what it is.Some old, solid pro's going up against each other. Or if it really does get you going, at least start a thread more in line with the acomplishment...Martinez vs these nondescript marginally accomplished past prime jr middleweights moving up" :good so we can all pick him to win and move on, or "martinez vs these decent middlweights (and put nigel benn to **** of angry patriotic English) and we can get some debate going.
Martinez vs Basilio would be a brutal war. Martinez could be overwhelming but Basilio is a bull that fires straight down the pipe, never heard anyone compliment his hand speed, but his jab looked sharp as hell in the Robinson fights
