What is Mayorga's Place In History?

He goes down in history as an entertaining guy who was usually competitive. Only fight where he was blown out was the Oscar fight. Waaay better at 147, where he actually had to train to make weight. Punched harder, faster, better chin, & better stamina. I think he could have had a couple more upsets in his career if he managed to stay there longer

 

Don't think anyones even mentioned his win over Vargas? A shot to **** Vargas at that but a decent name on Mayorgas record. Mayorga should be remembered as always coming to fight and doing incredibly well for someone with such a crude style and and having some serious issues with his techinique! Always fun too watch and would love to see him fight Margarito.

 

As someone who possessed one of the least fitting nicknames of anyone in the sport's history.

..."El Matador"? The chain smoking Nicaraguan was much more of a bull in the ring.

That said, and in all seriousness, Mayorga will likely be remembered as one of the sport's more entertaining figures, and an overachiever who made the most out of what he had at his disposal.

He had some serious technical flaws, but he also had clubbing power with both hands, a solid chin, and a unique ability to drag more skilled fighters into the kind of fight that gave him the best chance of victory. And when he fought, you likely were gonna tune it to see what would happen.

Can't really argue with that kind of legacy, to be honest. There are much worse to have.
