Today's Sergio vs The Winky who shut out Tito ?

wow. what a tough decision. tough tough decision. AT THIS point its very hard to bet against Sergio. But Winky at his best is a defensive master. Problem is that Sergio is such an awkward fighter.

i would probably have to say Winky by CLOSE CLOSE decision. great matchup though :good

 

Wright gives him all sorts of trouble with that defense and the way he's willing to throw.

Stylistic nightmare for Sergio.....I think Martinez wins some early rounds but ends up getting systematically picked apart over 12 rounds by Wink. The Jab of winky in my opinion would take Sergio's away from him. Wink by UD.

 

While Winky's obviously the superior fighter to Dzinziruk, there is a stylistic similarity, and I just can't get over how easily Sergio solved that more basic style, even when executed well. Granted Winky kind of defied the odds as it was by being as successful as he was with it, but it's just too hard for me to pick against Sergio in this matchup, and I carry a lot of respect for Wright. Maybe it's the post-fight hangover talking, but my money's on Maravilla.

Winky couldn't be hit that night. He pretty much blocked most of tito's shots. Winky wins by UD.

Special defense, nice accuracy, and more compact and less wild punches. Martinez would be a tough puzzle to solve though, but as the rounds go by, I think Winky takes control.

 

I think both guys have offenses tailor mad to exploit each other's defenses.

Fighters like Pavlik and Dzinzirk proved that if you step to Martinez with good fundamental skill you can exploit that hands down defense of his. Where as we all know that angles can open up that iron Winky Wright guard, and Sergio has just the kind of style and quickness to pull that off.

Overall, I see it as a very tight and closely contested fight. Whoever the winner is I don't think either guy will seperate themselves by more than a point or two the the time the scorecards are read.

Its nearly impossible to attack that turtle shell defense from the front as Trinidad went at Winky.

......but when you attack it at angles with footwork and from the sides as Pacquiao did vs Clottey......the high workrate fighter going at it in that manner will win a decision.

I know Winky was on the downside when he lost to Paul Williams, but Williams always attacked Winky from the laterals and hardly ever head on.

Tito had accumulative power up to 160, but lacked speed and defense. Sergio, on the other hand, has one punch power and has one of the best offense and defense on the planet. He's a smaller southpaw version of Roy Jones in RJ mode. Winky doesn't have the power to hurt or humble Martinez and his southpaw jab would give Sergio slight problems, but Winky would get countered by Sergio. Winky used his massive body to push back fighters like Shane and Tito that were face first, come forward power punchers. Sergio is not that, anyone with a brain knows he is a boxer first with mobility being his best weapon. His power was untapped and until recently has been taking advantage of it for a deadly combination. Winky overpowered his opponents he would never overpower Sergio. Sergio beats him in every dept. Sergio has an underrated jab as well I don't see Winky winning that battle either. It would look like a 154lb version of Pacquiao vs Clottey.

 

Martinez' speed, work rate, foot work and angles would allow him to get around Winky's guard. Close fight but I got Sergio by decision.
