The problem with Cotto is all mental. Physically, I think he is close to peak as he has been.

The Mayorga gave him some confidence but not as much as I think he would have liked. It would have been better if it was a mid round TKO.

I still think he needs one more good performance to mentally recover from the Marga and camp/personal issues he had.

Cotto is not shot, I don't know why everyone keeps saying Margs beat it out of him.

    :good Good post.

You covered all the points, so I'm just gonna say the fight was awesome....real fun one to be a fan.

** Cotto did look small in there.

He looked good. Mayorga was pretty game and was a bad style matchu pt obegin with , so it's no surprise he got hit a lot. I agree he probably should stick to 147. His chin isnt that great to begin with, and he wont be able to take a lot of punches at 154.

I give him a solid B or B+. He clearly beat an awkward fighter with power (who wasn't as faded as most people thought he would be), was only hurt once and not seriously, and gave a pretty standard Cotto performance. Beautiful jab, counter lefts, mechanically precise footwork, defensive lapses. His attack these days just seems uncreative though, and he obviously doesn't have the power to seriously dent elite opposition.

I think he beats Margo, and from there, who knows. The way HBO/ GBP are moving their young "champions", Alvarez won't fight Cotto until he's 40.

I think he's better off @ 154 until pac and mayweather retires. He already defeated most of the top dawgs at 147. The only other fight i would like to see him @ 147 is against berto.

Other than that i would like to see him vs margarito again. Cintron-el pero-kirkland are other fights i like to see him @ 154.

He boxed way too much... margarito will walk through his jabs and KO him quicker in the re-match!

I think he looked good. He was crisp with his overall footwork, even with the ring rust. I think, however, he was to timid. I feel he respected Mayorga to much. Though, I have to say that has alot to do with the way Mayorga was fighting. He was actually trying to box with Cotto, he didn't look to bad either. Sure Ricardo wanted to mix it up, but that too was scarce.

Great win for Cotto. He's a hellva boxer! I agree with everyone as well, 154 might not be so good for him. That being said, GBP better keep "Canelo" away from this man. Cotto would ruin him.

he showed nothing that made me think he'd do any better against Margo this time and didn't handle Ricardo's limited pressure as well as I thought he should. Margo shows more angles, has better footwork(cuts off the ring way better) and throws a much higher volume of punches than Mayorga, I see Cotto wilting again, maybe even earlier this time.

Is possible, but I'm still looking for a late stoppage.

Someone here in Puerto Rico told me that Margo doesn't throw as much as Mayorga did.:lol:
