Everytime any boxer steps between the ropes they risk their health.
For every champion who retired at the top there are many more who carry on past their best, some of them sustain permanent damage.

I can think of a lot of guys who've taken more punishment than Cotto & carried on. He doesnt seem to be punch-drunk but the article quotes people close to Miguel.

The truth of the matter is that he is still good enough to be competitve with all but the highest company. He has given his life to the sport, but if there is substantial medical evidence that he should retire then he should hang em up. Or if Jesus says so.

Second, wtf? When was Cotto prime? When he was wobbled by a past it Judah? When he was hurt by Torres? When he failed to stop Paulie? When it took him 11 rounds to beat Urkal?

He did very well the other night, I picked Cotto by decision and lost a lot of money... He got the same result as Mosley, who destroyed Margo after he beat Mayorga. On top of that, the fight was nowhere near close as the case was for Mosley-Mayo.

i think people have a romanticised view of how good cotto used to be. he hasn't declined that sharply. he was never amazing, and he's still a good fighter.

Cotto isn't that shot. I wouldn't say he's the same fighter la Margarito, but Cotto is still a great boxer, and can easily hang with the top still.
