The best to compare Calzaghe's "heart" with is Bute so far.

Bute had a controversial win over Andrade and gave him an immediate rematch. Fought Bika after only 19 fights as a pro. Switched from HBO to Showtime to chase the best fighters in the division. Came up on Shobox, Showtime Championship boxing, Boxing After Dark, etc.

    Strange connection there:?

Callzaghe at least had the heart to keep going in his fights - not deflate like a slashed tire from round six or seven every time he fought ala Pascal.

And, Calzaghe never re-matched against anybody in his career(I think?) so, that too, is a null point.

And I'm more of a Pascal than a Joe fan.

comparing Pascal to Calzaghe is like comparing Bruce Seldon to Tyson. Calzaghe didn't need to fight Hopkins again. I remember him beating him clealy.

That's not true he rematched the great Mario Veit. Calzaghe clearly had something to prove a second time around. While guys like Reid and Hopkins didn't deserved rematches for having had 12 close rounds each to prove their superiority against Calzaghe unlike Veit who only had a mere 112 seconds. So clearly their was unfinished buisiness there and Veit needed a few more rounds before we could all decide who was superior between Calslappy and Veit.

What a pathetic post. Calzaghe was obviously better than Veit. Go and watch the Reid fight (I dought you have) Calzaghe badly broke his hand in that and still won a close and fair decision. End of the day Calzaghe was not 28 when he fought Hopkins and Hopkins was three years younger than he was against Pascal. The Veit rematch was mandated, just like the Hopkins rematch is for Pascal. Had either the Reid rematch or a Hopkins fight or rematch been mandated during Calzaghe's WBO title reighn he would have taken the fights.

What about Lennox, he was about same age as JC Superstar when he retired rather than rematch his toughest opponent, Vitali. Is he a heartless ***** too? Remember his nickname is Lennox "the Lion". He wouldn't have that nickname if he didn't have alot of heart.

Pascal wouldn't rematch B-Hop if he had a choice. B-Hop by UD next time round.

he rematched Veit simply because Veit managed to get himself back into the number 1 contender spot for the WBO title, after Calzaghe beat Mitchell he stated his main goal was to unify the division.

the fact that he had to go to Germany for the rematch speaks volumes.

Thinking about it, Pascal didn't get the W vs Hopkins and is obligated to take the fight if he wants to keep his title thanks to Golden Boy-WBC corruption, which he can't afford to lose not being an elite or popular fighter. Plus it was a fairly entertaining fight and it makes financial sense to make the rematch, especially for Pascal who doesn't have any bigger or more lucrative fights out there for him atm. Far cry from the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight which was ruined by B-Hops excessive holding and spoiling tactics. No-one would've paid to see that again. Get real.

I thought I was clearly being sarcastic. Calzaghe fans are very touchy, anything remotely negative towards Joe, even said in jest get's jumped on and defended.

Of course Calzaghe was better than Veit that's not even debatable but that was not my point, my point was the pointless statment of the thread. Questioning Cazaghe's heart by comparing him to Pascal just because he is rematching Hopkins is ludicrous.

I did watch the Reid fight at the time as I was a big Calzaghe fan before he started fighting the Pudwills and Mkrtchyans. I am well aware of Joes hand issues and despite that there was demand for a rematch though Reid priced himself out of the rematch so can't blame Calzaghe there.
