This is my first post first of all Considering all the Matinez hype I was wondering if most people think that if he moved up to smw and beat Ward and Froch (Im not gonna ask about Bute cos I think he's a bit of a joke tbh) would he be outright P4P number 1? I think he would be and I would love to see it, Anyway what you lot think??
I would think so, would favour him against Froch to be honest. Froch is not the most elusive fighter and reckon he'll struggle immensely with Martinez's speed and footwork.
He doesn't want to test himself like that with maybe only a couple fights left, so it's not happening. It definately could get him to #1, but It's a much harder route than beating smaller fighters you have all the advantages over like Money, Pac and Cotto. And that's where he's heading.
Fighting the smaller guys will get him the money, but not the #1 spot. 2 of those small guys made it to the top by moving up in weights
he beats Pac and Money he will.. or just one if them even, he probably gets the #1 given how itchy people are to dicredit Pac and Mayweather and to get them out of there
Sergio don't have enough time to invest @ 168 lbs. Martinez is a superfight type from this point on. I'm sure if a potential clash Vs. A super six Breakout becomes available within a a reasonable amount of time he'd take it. But I don't expect Sergio to ever consider a run in SMW.
Martinez is too small for 168, but he's getting too big for 154.. Pac won't go any higher than 147, as he is even small for that, and I doubt Mayweather will fight him.. If anything, he'll move up after a few fights..
Martinez seems too small for 168 but there aren't a lot of huge money options at 160. He's never getting Mayweather or Pacquaio so those are probably out. That leaves a few good fights from 154-160 like Williams, Angulo, Kirkland, Pirog, and a few others but I think he might have to consider making a move to 168 in the next year or so. I've read recently that Dibella is wanting to make a Martinez-Manfredo match up which isn't exactly an exciting idea.
Depends on who he beats, and the manner in which he does it. Beating an Arthur Abraham wouldn't be enough to claim the number one spot. But an Andre Ward is a different story. A win against a 168-pounder like him, may put him on par with Pac.
How can he be too small for 168 if he weighed over 170 on fight night in his last fight, per media reports? And the previous fight with Williams he had issues making weight and then rehydrated to 12 lbs over the agreed limit by fight night. Martinez ought to be fighting at 168.
Like many people said, Martinez should stay at 160. And Bute is no joke btw. Don't see how you came to that conclusion. Right now a fight against Ward or Froch would be 50/50 IMO. That's all going to change after their next fights which should give us a clearer picture and the final of the Super Six.
