If it's a stay busy bout, and he can get back in the ring October-ish time (if not earlier)...I don't see the problem.

Since Sergio is fighting at such a high level, ANY fight at MW is easy work for him. So why not just go ahead and unify all titles? Besides, he has stated he doesn't want to take a step backwards by fighting guys who are far from elite status.

not smart, martinez isnt young he needs to take top names and do well as fast as possible, he is on a great run lately. He needs to fight a guy like sturm in the summer.

lou is really enjoying putting fights on in his old stomping grounds again

not that he would probably need manfredo for it...but putting him at foxwoods assures him of a sell out...although the venue is small(around 4k)....

but martinez/dzinziruk....berto/ortiz....im guessing hes looking at the mgm at foxwoods for this one too....

    it would be a massacre

Martinez himself says he's interested in only the big names. I suppose that it could be interpreted that Manfredo is a 'big name.' Somehow I don't think that who Sergio had in mind though.

im ok for him to have a slightly easier fight.

but he doesnt have loads of fights in him,and why waste time for a non worthy opponents who bring nothing in terms of title or massive money.

try best to get these cowards to dare face him.

He should chase and get all the title unification fights and unify middleweight and light middleweight.

im sure he could get winnner of cotto-margarito too.

As long as this stays off PPV, I'd watch.

    1) Nobody wants to fight this guy.
    2) He has been on a run of tough fights and overcome expections of him. Why not give him a easier "stay busy" fight? I don't see the problem.

I don't doubt that Martinez wants to fight the best. This guy shouldn't have to prove that or anything else about him. He already done everything to make boxing fans believe in him.

I don't think Martinez should be obliged to fight Pirog like some people here and I think he and DiBella have perfectly valid, non-duck related reasons for not taking that fight. That being said, DiBella comes across as a hypocrite for dismissing Pirog as undeserving and then turning around and trying to give his guy Manfredo a shot at the middleweight champion. This also greatly contradicts many of the criticisms he has made of Arum recently.

Exactly. Martinez has only boxed 10 rounds in the last 11 months.

Martinez and Sturm need to make something happen for July.

If Martinez is going to fight again this year and considering the run he's been on then I don't have a problem with this fight. Mafredo is ok and has a bit of a name but he gets totally outclassed here. The only problem I would have with this is if HBO shows it. This is clearly a one-sided fight and has no business on HBO. If DiBella and Martinez want to do this fight thats fine, he's earned the right to take a lesser opponent here, but HBO doesn't need to be involved with it. Let DiBella take this to someone like Fox, Epix, Versus, his own ppv, etc.

I remember DiBella was looking for an Angulo fight a while ago - someone like that would be better. He's from a lower weight-class, has a style which should make Martinez look good, a fan base and would be a much more credible threat.

I know it would also be an easier fight but there should be a balance somewhere - it just doesn't sit right fighting a guy like Manfredo who doesn't have a prayer.

Yea Clottey was at the top after losing to Cotto
DLH had just looked superb facing Forbes without being dehydrated.
Margarito had just looked awesome right after being TKOd for the first time and going 10 with a no one. Made him a top 154lbr.
Mosley is not 10 years past him prime.

I dont want the Manfredo fight but he does deserve a soft touch. Hopefully its someone else though.
