Would be a great fight to see, no doubt. But at this point I think Williams is too dangerous for Canelo, GBP would stay far far away from this matchup right now. As for the outcome, I feel Williams would most likely take a close decision as of today (@154)
I like this match up. Alverez could possibly finish pauls career with back to back ko losses. But for some reason,as shitty as I think Paul, with the exception of Martinez II Paul has never been dominated. And Paul has fought a good crop of fighters. Maybe a year or two from now ID say alverez but today Paul wins soundly
Good call. Tremendous fight on paper, and I don't think there' any way this one could disappoint. I think Arum is trying to build Canelo up here in SoCal, so his next couple of fights could be back here. It would sell the Honda Center out; I know I'd be there.
Not gonna happen P-Will is a 147 lb finder remember?? Unless Canelo can make welterweight :rofl
It could be a very good fight, but I think Williams should get a win over someone before he fights for a championship.
Your forgetting the 1st Quintana fight, but it probably slipped your mind. But yeah Paul definitely has more experience at the world class level, but I don't think he's learned anything from it. He still hasn't learned to stay on the outside and use his jab. He still hasn't learned not to bend forward and negate his height advantage. You know exactly what your up against when you step in the ring with him. P-Will would definitely be the favorite, but I think the fight would be exciting enough that it would benefit both fighters careers.
never, ever going to happen right now. it's bundrage, then spinks, then chavez jr. that will but enought time until 2013, when alvarez will have no other option but to step up and fight. and then he gets ko'd. this guy has very little power, wide punches and a suspect chin. numerous 154's are dying to fight this guy. he is boxing's version of mma's michael bisping.
It is not as if Saul Alvarez has been beating world class boxers. He has however been beating quility oppoents. Rather or not his fight with Matthew Hatton should have been for a championship, it was. Alvarez by result of winning the fight is the WBC Super Welterweight Champion. I'm of the opinion that in order to get a championship fight a boxer should be comming of a win over a quilty oppoent. At the very least lost in conterversial fashion in his last fight. Williams did neither in their last fight.
I believe Williams wins this fight, even though I really like Canelo and think many here underrate him. It would be a good fight, but Williams shouldn't have to take this fight, he has nothing to "prove", he has earned the right to fight the top money guys in the business, he's taken the fights others wouldn't take (Martinez twice, Margarito) and he deserves to have his shot to get paid. Again on paper I love the fight, but damn how many of these type fights does Paul have to take to be given the due he's earned?
Interesting fight. Wondering about Williams' chin after suffering from a brutal ko - and how Canelo would handle this kind of a major step up - makes for intriguing possibilities.
Paul Williams would still beat that ass. Alvarez is hype.....even more hype than Paul Williams was but still not as good.
