If Ortiz would've just stayed down, or went down and acted like he couldn't get back up, would that have been better than him pulling himself out of the fight the way he did?

People have been KO'd and most people seem to move on after that much quicker. He seems like a decent kid so I guess he really is going to have to do a lot to get this "quitter" tag away from him. I think Berto is a great fighter so I'm not sure this is a good fight for him to get some good confidence in, but hey, if he wins, it should.....should, do wonders for his career.

Most likely yes, if we all thought he was seriously injured. Likely, though he still would of been called weak, and undetermined. Just the way of the game, but just how he did it, was really bad.

Surprised the hell out of me when he quit but what really shocked me is what he said after the fight.

I bet to this day he wishes he could re-do what happened that night. Obviously he thought being brutally honest would be the best way to go. Now his honesty really shows he hasn't been in the game long enough.....

that's it right there. The interview is what really got him in some ****, cause it had been a hell of a fight. How many KD's were there already?

I will certainly watch him when I can though. He fun to watch.

i would have had more respect for him had he got laid out cold.

not only did he quit a fight that he was winning but he said he's too young to be hit like that and hes never getting hit like that for nobody.

then lets not forget the terrible performance against peterson :patsch

I think it would have done him better. The final KD of Ortiz was a liver shot so if he stayed down most people would buy in to it rather then think he is quitting.

Maidana has turned out to be a much better fighter then we all thought, so a Loss to him would not be seen as too damaging, but quitting against anybody is going to bring you hate.

    "Ortiz, why did you quit?"

"Well, you know, I don't deserved to be hit like that and I think had enough of the fight at that point but HEY you know, i think Maidana was gonna win the fight anyway, and HEY umm, I did well , or, I thought I did well enough but you know, he just kept coming but HEY, you know, that's life and ummm ah, that's boxing, so I thought, why continue, you know?"
